Guage rings?

Isn't that a pic in Pluto/Will's avatar of Seth Green?

i haven't been on in forever, and came upon this thread again and wanted to see the progress on the next generation of rings. unfortunately, i came across this post that didn't sit well, so i was just hoping for some clarification.

We are trying to fix the problem dave was having with the rings.

i don't know what "problem" you allude to, but aside from about 10 people who got the first generation rings, there weren't any fitment or production issues. the second generation rings were push-fit tight. they even stayed on after my accident where i wrapped my car around a tree.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have personally SEEN STREET RINGS. Seriously, at the FL statewide meet, Cullen showed me the rings he is working on. They are ones that he is having problems with the fitment, as dicussed in this thread. Looking at them, I can see whay 1)DaveB did not make a bajillion of them, and 2) why it takes a lot of time to make them work. Cullen went into detail about the DavB Rings and how they were made, and how he is making them, as well as problems he has faced. I am amazed anyone, including Cullen, has taken on this project. It is a lot of precision machining, and I know I could never do it.

Rest assured, he wants these rings made as much as we do. I have a laundry list of PMs to send out when they come available. Just be patient, and good things will come.

is 3000 sets in the span of a little over a year close enough to a bajillion?

i bid cullen much luck. the hardest part isn't actually making the rings, nor is it in the design of the rings. it's actually in assuaging all the pm's and emails about the rings, which can drive any person to insanity. i hope there will be progress on the new rings soon.

3000 sets were made? holy crap! I thought it was just a few hundred. So he got over $100,000 by selling these little metal rings? Wow!

The fitment issues seem to be from the way they are made. I saw them recently, and can say that if they were easy to make, I am sure ebay would have knockoffs by now.

Seems like they will be ready soon, so I will be swamped with the hundred or so PM's I gotta send out. weeee!

Hmm subscribing....want these rings for a long time....good to see they are coming back.

Hi guys just a quick note from the packing and shipping department. ( Also known as Daves Better half) I gotta tell you after I read that amount $100,000 (shocked) I about choked on my morning can of coke. No way did he make that much. He sold them for $30.00 a set and the group buys were even cheaper than that when quanaties were bought all at once. ( then we gave a few sets away and donated quite a few sets to car meets ) He had to buy all the material to make them with, then all the packing supplies, dvd's for the instructional video and then buy all his own tooling for the machines. Then the fact that he could only run them on weekends and between the hours of midnight and 6:00 am. He did make some profit but you would be surprised at how little. Dave just wanted to crank out a mod that everyone could afford and we had a real blast doing it. It did get crazy but for the most part we loved it. All the profit he made went straight back into his car. ( although I did get a few great dinners out ... worked for me!!) The best part for me was pulling along side someones car and seeing the rings in them. It's a great adventure; a lot of work, but you meet some of the most fantastic people thru the rings. Have Fun!
