Guage rings?

Well I think the thing is that DaveB is making them anymore (except for this one instance) So street unit saw that there is a market for these because alot of people would still like to get their hands on them so thats why he kind of "took" over for Dave

let's just put it this way, if dave was in constant and full production, 20 some-odd sets wouldn't have been made. it would have been more like 200. he just cleaned his shop and came upon some extra aluminum, so he decided what the heck. is this his last run? probably. all of a sudden, dave gets painted as the bad guy for whatever reason. oh well. the market for these is still out there. 20 or so sets wouldn't put a dent in how many proteges are still wanting rings.

oh, on top of that, no one from street unit has answered the question of what kind of problems dave was having with his rings? there was a claim from cullen a while back that dave was having problems with the rings. you just bought the rings... arethere ANY fitment issues? ANY problems?

Please don't bring SU into this. I don't like forum wars.

i don't either. but what's with the two guys with your shop's name as a sig bashing dave for making a few sets of rings?

I dont reallty see where Dave was getting flamed for making them this time. I was getting flamed (jokingly) by Raider for backing out. And I believe the production issues w/ Dave B were addressed & it was just being stated that the reason SU rings were taking so long is because they are hitting the same snags that DAve b WAS getting when originally producing them...

here you go, post 922:

now take those and send them to daveb....so he can say he still makes em magically after saying he will not...whooops...

cullen make em for the old bugs quick or daveb will be onto your game!

and 923 and 924.

and about any production problems dave had... well, there are two generations. a first generation of rings that were "slip fit" rings. they simply slipped over the gauge cluster but didn't fit snug. he had about 10 people who reported they fell off the cluster. dave went back to work and got a second generation out that has been in production ever since. the second generation is a "pressure fit" style ring where you push it on and forget about it. this is what people have been getting over the last year. the 10 people who reported having falling rings got the new ones at no charge.

in late july, there was a question posed about how the rings should be mounted. post 669 poses the question and 671 alludes to a current problem with dave's rings. on 07-26-05, cullen says:

We are trying to fix the problem dave was having with the rings.

there has never been a problem dave was having with the rings since the first generation. dave fixed it.

Well I believe again that they were speaking that they were having the same problem that he was having at first & are trying to get the pressure fit to work correctly

nope, just reading and taking it at face value. if cullen wanted to say he was having production problems with the rings, he would have said, "we are trying to figure out the production problems dave was having at first" instead of just mentioning that dave had problems with his rings. maybe you're reading into the posts too much. read it at face value and interpret it for what it says. it doesn't say anything about production.

There were issues with the rings not sitting tight enough on the cluster and falling off. So to fix this and get a better fit, we use adhesive. This allows for all 3 rings to sit snug and not too close to each other.

I don't understand why there always has to be a "whipping boy" on the forums. Raider and P5 were being sarcastic, thats just their personality. I apologize on their behalf if they offended anyone.

I always saw it as sarcasm...seems like this guy is board & trying to start things?

basically, since you are making these from scratch and there are problems with production, how is it dave's problem? and like i said earlier, unless you were in the first batch of produced rings, you wouldn't have any problems with the rings not sitting tight enough. i guess i fail to see why dave's name was dropped in the first place, especially since you fixed the problem.

[sarcasm] and don't you call me a whipping boy you punk plick. [/sarcasm]

nope, just waiting for the rings. keeping the rings thread alive!!!!

He was referencing Daves name to inform everyone that he was having the same problems that dave was on his initial run

I don't think we are on the same page. Dave had a problem with the rings not sitting tight. We had the same problem. It is not his problem anymore; it is not our problem anymore. This convo is redundant and is confusing.

And I didnt call you a whipping boy. That reflecting how members plunder someone for a mistake, even it is miniscule or not a mistake at all. Just imagine a plunderless forum.

yeah, it is confusing! i was confused as all hell. seriously. that's why i kept asking questions. convo dropped.

as for whipping boy, i didn't take it as you calling me it, hence the extreme sarcasm coding. if anything, i should apologize if you felt i was making you the whipping boy.
