Ground Loop Issues

those bass blockers are needed in case i bridge my amp? is that the case?

What's your opinion on the fact that infinitiy tweets were cracking under strong bass even with the 18db per octave crossover they come with? There is no more cracking now that xover and the bass boost are off on the amp...
And do you have any opinions on what is a good place to put tweets in a pro for a good image, aka no weird ass s*** they do because of bouncing off of glass?
Thanks 1sty : )

Bass boost usually does bad things. I'm not surprised you heard crackling with it on. At moderate levels you should be ok with the crossovers and bassboost off. If you like cranking it up or you have a sub to handle bass duties then you will want to get the bass blockers as 1sty suggested.

As for mounting positions. In general it is best to keep the tweeters close to the drivers. Mounting them just above the driver in the door is ideal as long as you don't mind cutting a hole in your door. You can also make a bracket and mount them over the drivers (in a coaxial fashion).

I have mine mounted in the stock P5 locations which are right by the rear view mirrors. I don't recommend this for metal dome tweeters or components that don't have a tweeter attenuation switch/knob. It produces a high stage that is offcenter. Its not great but it sound ok when you're driving around with all the windows open.

Cool. I don't have the sub yet. It will probably be my summer project. One of them anyway... Thanks for your help : )

OK Audio People. I am ******* fuming pissed right now. I am pretty positive the left infinity tweeter blew. Its making these horrid sounds like the LA one did. I am ******* done with this s***. I want to sell all the audio s*** and go back to stock. I am fed up. There is not reason anything like this should have happened. NONE. Bass is set to 0 no xover on the amp, no bass boost on the amp. Just magna bass on the head unit. The ******* tweets are rolled all the ******* way down. WHAT THE **** WHAT THE **** WHAT THE ****.

I am done, with this s***.

Treble should be at Zero aswell.
Its all about volume. If the amp can't push the system to the volume you want without distortion, then its going to blow speakers.

I still think that amp is smoked.
Its possibly pushing out DC voltage which is causing the tweeters to fry.
Before you ditch the speakers, try another amp.

how would i do that firsty. Put the bad amp back? I am just tired of all of it. ALL OF IT. If I set the trebble to 0 i go deaf. I am serious.

I thought the infinityes are reliable.... But i guess not so reliable for me/my amp/ my set up. I am hating the day when i got that amp or any amp for that matter.

damn man that sucks... you sure its blown? you take it out and inspect it? i agree with 1sty try a different amp? don't give up yet... hell i am driving around for the next couple days with only rear speakers b/c i didn't have enough time this weekend to run the speaker wire from the cross overs to the speakers and then mount them... though everything else is in and wired up.....

oy.... I will see. Maybe my speaker wiring is fuckered up in that door or something... I don't know. The thing is that the finals are approaching and there is a lot of stuff piling up. I really don't have time for this bulls*** right now. My stupid ass should have waited untill the summer. God damn it i am dumb....

yeah i just started my install and ran into so many problems that i am going to have to re-do a lot of it before the summer ends.... so i do know where you are comming from... though i hope to hell i don't have any of the noise/speaker problems you are dealing with... especially since if i blow one of the ones i have there is no way i can just replace it real quick....sounds like you should just start over... re-wire it all and use a new amp... (i know $$$)

Use a known good amp. Hell even buy one form bestbuy, test with it and return the damn thing.

Since your under a butt load of pressure. Just forget about it for now. Just leave the deck off and take care of it this summer.

If you want to rule out the speakers wires. Take some new wire and go right from the amp to the crossover. Don't run the wire under anything or through anything. Its just for testing. If that cures things, then the wiring is bad. If it doesn't then the connections atleast from the amp to the speakers are fine.

ok here is the deal. It's actually the woofer that went. I am very confused at this point. Very very confused. And pissed too. Since my highs were rolled down all the way it apperared that the tweet was muddy. But no. My foofer freaking went. This is quite ridiculous. Maybe it's my new amp that's foobared after all...

DO the testing I mentioned already. Until you figure out whats really going on, swapping speakers in isn't going to help. If you think they are definitly gone, then get them warrenty replaced/repaired.

Ther are still 2 suspect parts of the system, the speaker wires run into the doors, and the amp. We need to rule them out or figure out that they are the problem.

As it seems like you are in a big rush right now, just put the whole thing aside until you have some breathing room. I know its frustrating as hell, but doing rushed trouble shooting is seldom productive. I would take some cool down time, go have a coake and a smile, do some home work, hang out with some buds for the rest of today and tackle this mess another time.

If your going to the meet next week I can look at it again then. Although the meet may be canceled in which case you can come up again if you like.

ok firsty my man i guess i will do that. I am pretty sure the speaker is a goner. It makes ridiculous sounds buzzing like a mo fo... I mean it has to be blown cause it worked fine and now is not. Wiring or not the speaker worked and now is buzzing and cracking and doing everyhting a blown speaker would do. I don't know if i should just return them or wait intill i see you/untill later and just go through infinity warranty? I can still return the speakers to where i got them from i am pretty sure. Should i do that or not? What do you think. Is that rational or not, cause i might be doing something irrational....

You typicly only have 7-10 days with car audio to get your money back, sometimes less. Typicly 30 to get them swapped out. So get your money back or get them replaced ASAP. I would hold off on installing them again until we can detmin the cause of these problems.

I don't know the technical terms but the back of the woofer cone separated from the voice coil i think it is. The wrinkly part that extends when the speaker moves forward.

ok well the woofer separated from the spider. I am all over the god damn place. I cant find one of the flush mount attachement. In addition i am freaking out that they will not take them cause they'll fund scratches or some s***. Not to mention i can only exchange the fuckers they won't give me the money back....
