I used to get 29-30 mpg every tank, just last year! I don't know what changed to make it go down to the current 25 mpg I usually get now. =(Protege52003 said:correct.............

jeg0024 said:Ive gotten over 400 to a tank before, but it was interstate only @70mph and I ran the thing dry lol. My last tank however was 350 miles on 12.5 gal which came out to roughly 28mpg, which isnt bad I guess, because I usually only get around 300 to a tank if I drive normal.![]()
You won't see it until your gas needle is near the bottom of the gauge.habeansha said:do all proteges have a gas light thing?
i have never seen mine of course my tank rarely gets below 1/4 tank
mhrebin said:damn. i need to keep a watchful eye. i just filled up once my light came on. 12.5 gallons and i was 320 on the ODO. roughly 26 mpg which is alright but not what id like. how the hell are some of you getting 30+, i wanna know.ha
mhrebin said:damn. now im gonna take it easy. or easier, i dont really drive hard. but i can change the habits a bit to get the MPG up.
is it all just concious driving? or are there addiditives that help in the process. ive heard seafoam works well. but then again ive heard a lot of things work good.
any input is appreciated. O and BTW, im going to be having a for sale thread soon, just need some pics. ill keep you guys posted. got some nice goodies people might be interested in.

bvines18 said:the seafoam will work, but only for that tank that you use it with and maybe the next one. you can pour it into the air intake as the car runs to clean out the intake or put it into the fuel tank. you prolly wont see a significant difference in mpg but your engine will be cleaner.
mp3wannabe said:do NOT pour seafoam into your air intake!!!!!
i almost edited your post because i dont want anyone to do that...you pour it into you VACUUM lines. see this thread for more info.
i'm sure thats what you meant![]()
Mazavisitor12 said:Question.
I have a 1999 Protege, 1.6 Liter.
Once I am at the bottom of the empty part, and my gas light turns on - how much gas do I have left?
From the second the gas light turns on, how much does that mean I have left in the tank? 2 gallons? 1 gallon? half a gallon?
I read the 1999 protege has a 13.2 gallon size tank total.
Mazavisitor12 said:Well, I actually read the thread and read how someone else also said 2 gallons. Although I always thought that once you are on empty the car generally has about 15-20 miles left on it. Although if 2 gallons, that means the car has a good 60 miles still on it (highway, that is). But if the car holds 13 gallons, and it's at the very bottom of empy thing and the gas light comes on, well 2 gallons would be 15% of the gas tank left. It just doesn't seem like there would be 15% left in the tank, when the notch is already past the last line on the readings on the gas notches. That's why I wasn't sure...
