I used to get 29-30 mpg every tank, just last year! I don't know what changed to make it go down to the current 25 mpg I usually get now. =(

i can get around 420 out of 1 tank (13.2 gal), using about all but the .2 gal, when i make the trip to school (mostly interstate @ ~75mph).

Ive gotten over 400 to a tank before, but it was interstate only @70mph and I ran the thing dry lol. My last tank however was 350 miles on 12.5 gal which came out to roughly 28mpg, which isnt bad I guess, because I usually only get around 300 to a tank if I drive normal.:)

thats about normal for me. give or take of course.

do all proteges have a gas light thing?
i have never seen mine of course my tank rarely gets below 1/4 tank

You won't see it until your gas needle is near the bottom of the gauge.

damn. i need to keep a watchful eye. i just filled up once my light came on. 12.5 gallons and i was 320 on the ODO. roughly 26 mpg which is alright but not what id like. how the hell are some of you getting 30+, i wanna know.ha

dont push her too hard. ive been shifting around 3000 rpm and been getting around 29-32mpg on each tank. but when i decide to race one night, that tank's mpg goes down quick

I got 16.2 on my last tank.

before I turboed I've gotten 36.6MPG highway driving @70-71mph, usually would average 29-32 doing short city traffic driving trips.

damn. now im gonna take it easy. or easier, i dont really drive hard. but i can change the habits a bit to get the MPG up.

is it all just concious driving? or are there addiditives that help in the process. ive heard seafoam works well. but then again ive heard a lot of things work good.

any input is appreciated. O and BTW, im going to be having a for sale thread soon, just need some pics. ill keep you guys posted. got some nice goodies people might be interested in.

the seafoam will work, but only for that tank that you use it with and maybe the next one. you can pour it into the air intake as the car runs to clean out the intake or put it into the fuel tank. you prolly wont see a significant difference in mpg but your engine will be cleaner.

do NOT pour seafoam into your air intake!!!!!

i almost edited your post because i dont want anyone to do that...you pour it into you VACUUM lines. see this thread for more info.

i'm sure thats what you meant ;)

Yesterday, I hit 380 miles. And when I got to the gas station to fill up, I got 12.5 gallons. When I did the math, I averaged 30.4 mpg. That's the best I've ever got.

my b. i guess its different on proteges, i havent done it to mine, but my friend has a jeep and he pours the seafoam into the intake.

Well our vacuum lines.. just go right into the intake manifold, so it's getting sucked into the intake manifold anyway. Just don't literally pour it into your intake pipe, it'll get all over the airflow sensor and I dunno how well it'll handle that.

Question.

I have a 1999 Protege, 1.6 Liter.

Once I am at the bottom of the empty part, and my gas light turns on - how much gas do I have left?

From the second the gas light turns on, how much does that mean I have left in the tank? 2 gallons? 1 gallon? half a gallon?

I read the 1999 protege has a 13.2 gallon size tank total.

usually about 2. by the way, i'm sure you could have found this by searching....

Well, I actually read the thread and read how someone else also said 2 gallons. Although I always thought that once you are on empty the car generally has about 15-20 miles left on it. Although if 2 gallons, that means the car has a good 60 miles still on it (highway, that is). But if the car holds 13 gallons, and it's at the very bottom of empy thing and the gas light comes on, well 2 gallons would be 15% of the gas tank left. It just doesn't seem like there would be 15% left in the tank, when the notch is already past the last line on the readings on the gas notches. That's why I wasn't sure...

In case there's a slight difference between models, there's an easy way to check this:
As soon as you see the light go on, take it to a gas station and fill it up (tank capacity minus gallons filled = how much gas left when the light comes on)... I usually have about 9-10 litres left (~2 gal)

I get on average 350 miles to 12.5 gallons. 28mpg is awesome especially using 87 octane. :) The damn mustang gets about 200 miles to 15 gallons of 93 octane. :( Pay to play
