going autox this saturday...

it was too crazy ! it was a bust at first since i arrived there at like 6:15am just so i can get on the "maybe" list. finally got to run at 9:30 after paying $85 to run ! so gay...was supposed to be $40 but they wanted a profit off not registering online...rented a helmet. i think i burned off a lot from my tires. my friend said that the course was 70 seconds average (and i never imagined that the course woudl be so BIG !), first three runs, i got lost, and did 91.xxx, 79.xxx, 74.xxx, then finally did the whole track correctly, and got 73, and just went lower to my lowest 70.284. i didn't want to scrub my tires too hard since this is my daily driver. but yeah, it was pretty fun, except for working the damn cones ! bleh...i got so much sun burn. not even funny. but overall, it was a good experience w/ my friends. i got to ride w/ a crazy woman in a 2.5RS...she just mashed the throttle the whole time and i felt like the car was just gonna flip over. lucky for AWD. quite a few BMWs, miatas, a TON of subarus, race prepped corvettes (the woman driving the kumho one got 57 consistently- the go karts were getting 56, but should've gotten in the mid-high 40s), 3 240sxs, mr2s, couple of porsches. there were only 2 proteges, me and a 2nd gen (i forgot his name), but it was cool seeing all these cars (including the turbo integra). i think i was getting better numbers then a few of the subaru WRXs, but they probably were just as n00bed out as me. but yeah, had fun...if i had to do it again, i'd probably be on another set of rims and tires instead of my stockers.

thanks to everyone that gave me advice once again !

oh yeah, on a side note, i somehow got my sideskirts scratched up like a mother. a cone couldn't have done the damage, but it's there, and it's pissing me off !!!

A cone certainly can do damage. Once a car has a hit a cone a few hundred times a cone can get hard and brittle... or get covered in hard debrit. Most places retire cones once they get too damaged to be used safely.

Yikes! That's super expensive for an autocross. DC region events are $25 for SCCA memebers and $35 for non-SCCA members. Helmet use is free. And DC runs some of the biggest, best organzied events in the country.

Once you've been out a few times, you'll see who the fast guys are in each class. You'll also see which classes have strong national level drivers - I know in DC, there are a few killer DSP drivers and a few car ****** who clean up in whatever car they borrowed for the weekend.

I'm glad you had a good time. It gets better after a few events, when you start to get consistent and get to know other drivers.

heh, nah he's in cali I think.

glad you enjoyed yourself. I can't wait to hit up the DC events soon

85 DOLLARS?!?!? Holy crap, we need to up our fees in D.C.!!! hehe...

glad to hear you had fun. don't worry about beating people at first...just worry about getting better. work on one thing at a time. most importantly...LOOK AHEAD. :)

your tires are going to get scuffed up anyway, so you might as well push it. my advice would be to get yourself a set of dedicated wheels/tires. what mods do you have (what class were you running?). for my ES, i just picked up a set of used MX-6 wheels for $80, and a set of new 15" Azenis for $300 shipped. you can usually find slightly used sets for a bit cheaper than new.

wow, $85. ouch. things ARE most expensive in Cali.

ps. at least you had SOME other Pros there. i'm the only one in Philly, and we supposedly have "MTMA" here. some "team"...ha! ;)

hehe, yeah, it was pretty expensive. it was only supposed to be $40 (still really expensive), but the stupid fscker wanted a profit.

yeah, california speedway autox. great, but DAMN the price.

and truly, it was just me and a 2nd gen. it was cool tho...except for my raw nose from the sunburn i got.

and...stupid CONE ! i'm supposed to kill YOU, not YOU kill my SIDESKIRTS ! (pissed)

oh yeah gotta add that i'm not in any class...i just went to the autox for the practice runs. i'm on 9 psi and a k&n filter, which would put me in STX right ? bah can't compete there...no money anyway. but i'd like to go to another practice run autox...i think it's improving my driving skills. also, i wanna compete with my friend ! he's getting an almost full (because he's getting the shocks replaced) TEIN suspension on his 240sx (which is undergoing an s13 conversion currently). he didn't get to run on saturday because his front camber was wayyy positive, so he didn't get much traction from the front, and understeered like a van

A boost controller would have sent you to S Mod. Your car is perfectly competitive stock in STX. Moreso than in DS without race tires thats for sure.
