Givin the option..would you trade your p5 for a mazda3 hb?

Stock for stock... heck no. Not even for a 2.3. Considering all the time/money/headaches I've put into my car, I would consider a trade for a 230hp> AWR or RWD Mazdaspeed version... if it looked good.

Nope, for the same reasons everyone mentioned. That is why I bought the P5 in the first place. Granted it was a good deal cheaper too :D

However if there were a MSP 3 with good power and whatnot... that might sway my thinking.

Hmmm... Trade the Pro5 on a...

3 Hatch? NO

3 Sedan? Maybe

6 Wagon? V6 + 5 speed.. YES... oh wait.. that's a Taurus motor? GOD DAMN IT, forget it

Kind of surprised at some of the responses, I can't believe some of you would take a Mazda6 Wagon, those things look like the 90's Subaru Station Wagons!
On top of that, carrying a Ford Motor.

i agree...the 6 wagon is just too....umm...non-sporty? if that describes it well

the p5 kills it

Oh hell no. Look at a Protege5, and then look at a Mazda3

One has agressive, edgy styling, the other is round and bulbous and looks downright obese from some angles

hahah amen bro

I'd prolly consider trading it in for a MazdaSpeed6 or perhaps a Mazda5 (if I had a family to think about) but not for a Mazda3 or any other cars in Mazda's current lineup. I like the new Miata but I couldn't replace my Protege5 with it. The RX8 is pretty bold but its a little too big and doesn't have enough power for the price.

I prefer the look of the P5, but the handling of a 3HB.

But I would prefer the Mazda 6 over either of them.

My opinion.

No i dont want a 3, if i had to trade a mazda stock for stock i would get a new mazdaspeed miata but in reality,i want an STi (first) , or at least a suburblue hatch.

Make a poll

I would trade the P5 in a split second for a shiny new 3s hatch. It's better in every way in my opinion...except cost, which is why I don't own one. I could have two of my P5s for the price of one loaded 2006 3s.

Eric

No, I couldnt do it. I really dislike the rear quarter panel and point on the back of the hatch. Its just not as aggressive looking imo.

It's just fat and round. I'll wait for them to come out with a meaner version, they probably will. It's like the ES in 99.. yeah it's nice, but then look at the 2001 MP3.. wow.

I don't like the 3 hatch.

I like the 6 wagon, but don't like gas mileage/pickup.

I like the mazdaspeed 6, but don't like the fact it's a sedan.

Mazdaspeed6 wagon = <3

Yes I would, they're both good cars, but the 3 seems to be a small step up in quality. I'm not sure exactly what it is, perhaps interior, perhaps ride improvements, but it just feels like a slightly better car to me. Of course, this is assuming the 3 has all the exact same options. Based on looks my opinion about the two is pretty much even. I slightly prefer the front of the P5, but prefer the back of the 3 as well as its headlights. I'd definitely be getting the non-sport front grille for the 3, though, because I think it looks a lot better.

I like the way you think Zath! I have to agree. Though if they'd made a MSP5, I would have sold my soul to get one. I almost traded my P5 in on a spicy MSP, but just couldn't bring myself to do it because it wasn't a hatchback.

I would NEVER trade my P5 in on a 3 hatch. IMHO, the P5 looks tons better, handles better (stock form), and is more rare than the 3. I know Hondas still reign as far as how many you see each and every day, but it's getting almost as bad with the 3. Yes, I do see P5's around, but not every day, and definitely not into the double-digits.

I don't like the styling of the ass-end, either when looking at it straight on (the taillights bulge to much) or from the side (the roof line slopes too much), and talk about a blind spot where our rear quarter panel window is - the 3 doesn't even have one.

What really is a step down, IMO, is the hatch opening in the 3: I can fit the box for a 27" tv through my hatch door. It fits, just barely and I have to put the back seats down to close the door, but it DOES fit. This is also helped by the fact that the roofline on the P5 is nearly straight. Try doing that with a 3. I hope your tv is round, because that's the only way you'll get it in your car!

I do like the interior a bit better in the 3 - it does feel more upscale - and the more powerful engine is nice too, but I'll stick with my beast thank you very much. Rattles, clutch chatter and all. :)
