Gift 929/help

New member as I just picked up (free) a 1992 929. Here's my problem. Car has 173,000 miles on it, relatively new transmission.

It needs, tires, brakes, hoses, belts.
The windows work only when you jiggle the fuse by the brake pedal.
No stereo.

Doesn't crank. Put a new distributor on it. New battery.

Changed the plugs and the plugs were literally dripping with oil. Car had sat up so I'm assuming valve cover gasket???? is shot and needs replacing.

Dealer quotes $550 for valve cover gasket job. While in there they could do the hoses and belts. Probably into it for 1000 bucks. Then add the tires and brakes, another 500 bucks. Windows, stereo, etc.......

Is it worth it? Anyone want to buy it for parts? What do I do?

I own one!

Hey, I am from Australia and I also own a 1992 929. When I first bought it I had to spend A$1700 on it to get it working and the power windows fail all the time, like the post below said, only keep it if you want to spend massive amounts of money, I know I have.

14 year old cars can develop numerous problems and I have heard bad things about 929's......can be a money pit.

sorry.

good luck! those cars are FWD arent they? that would make a crappy car all way around

I had a 94 929 as my second car i ever had, it was rwd 220HP stock, it was a awesome car, i absolutley loved the thing. I beat the hell out of it and it kept on ticking, until i was rear ended by a semi. They tried to fix it, but it was never the same. The only problem i ever had with was the Water pump. I think mine was the 2nd gen 929, and i think yours is a 1st.

Nope...RWD. And in Japan they were available with the 13B.

interesting. i bet you could get a dirt cheap front clip from japan and just weld in all the new mounts, use the jdm engine, harness, tranny (the at to mt would be a b****)etc and that thing would be a fun lil car. how much does it weigh?

wait isnt that a cosmo? thought that was a different car

It's similiar. The latest version of the Cosmo stated in 1990 and the 929 went from '86-90. In Japan the 929 is called the Luce.

looks like the black one in the last 2 pics isnt a TII, what other motors were available in Japan? i know on corksport they have a turbo motor that is also a swap for the mini van.
JFT V6 Turbo

Approximately 200 HP
Applications:
88-92 929
88-95 MPV

and its cheap too 4 a j spec motor. $849

would this make a nice drift project car? what is the rear susp. like? does it come with a LSD? im looking to possibly get my own car for local trials (the starion is a co-owned project car) this car looks differnt and fun to say the least and i would love to keep it in the maz family

it would look sick with the VIP treatment, show all those punks in their newfangled luxury cars who's boss hehe

i totally agree with u both. this would make a sick VIP car here in the states. i know they have some like that in japanin luce form (than justin)...ill try and find the pics and that pic with the 3" exhaust looks mean as hell

Too bad it's in Florida. Local pickup only. My next door neighbor has one the exact same color that he bought for $450 that runs.

u can get it running if its just elect. probs and then drive it here. that wouldnt be that hard for a $100 car. ive driven further for a protege
