GI: Affordable Intake Manifold

I think the EGR is important to lots of people for the CEL and trying to stay street legal since many of these little cars are daily drivers in places that have strong inspections... I spent lots of $$$$ to make my Cobra semi fast for a street car yet still be street legal... I like a little morr zoom-zoom and still be legal...

Does anybody else want an option to incorporate a larger throttlebody and wider ID for the runners for those running ported and polished heads or is it just me. I mean, in theory what good is having a ported and polished head without port matched manifolds.

I am cool with not having an EGR. I'd have to do a little more research but I am sure the PCM can be fooled into thinking the EGR is working just like a rear O2 or anything else for that matter. I think EGR is a BS emissions requirement whose environmental benefits are far outweighed by its complexity and detriment to performance and reliability.

If we stay under $400 I am interested, but the 505 looks too home brew for my tastes, so I'd definitely need to see a finished product first.

interested but WITH EGR, 400 is still good in my eyes but you know.. 350 is better!! anyways, keep me posted and i may be first in line on your GB thanks b

i've had a few requests for an affordable intake manifold so i turned on the amm status to see if the interest level is high enough to justify bringing the part to market. Here's what i would be offering:

Fully tig welded aluminum construction
velocity stacks inside the plenum
cnc cut flanges
one vacuum port (a vac manifold could be an option)
provisions to mount the stock fuel rail and stock throttlebody
egr delete

i'm working to get the pricing down to $350 for a bare bones setup and $400 with hardware & gaskets. There would be no other options at this price point. I don't want to take deposits until i have a finished manifold on a car, but i do need at least 10 people to make this worth my while.

where do i pay???!!!

C'mon guys this is a FU**ING steal right here!!! A no brainer for the price....Looking forward to the design

Lol home brew?

+1, what do you mean by home brew?

I think he is looking for something that looks a little bit more rounded so to speak. YOu know something it doesnt look like it was just made. Think cosworth intake quality.

Edit: Something that doesn't look like it was made out of well sheet metal. lol

sub, and would defiantly be interested in an exhaust mani as well if that gets made...

I am not trying to thread jack but if you all have held the manifold then ok, but if you haven't then I don't see how you could think it is home brew. I have had nothing but great luck out of mine. Great increase in power, the car keeps pulling to redline. It feels great when I had it in my hands. It was super easy to install and I have not heard of anyone having any issues with them.

I am sure the 505 is an excellent product, but only judging from pictures, it is very obvious that the intake was not made by Mazda. I am firmly in the camp of the simplest solution is the best solution, and the 505 is as simple as it gets. I mean no offense, but for the price of the 505 I would expect it to be a CNC'd work of art like the Steedspeed was.

Actually... in the case of intake manifolds, "as simple as it gets" is a 4" tube welded onto the lower half of a stocker. Haha.

In all fairness though it is pretty plain looking on the outside... where it shines is the properly made velocity stacks and a great volume/geometry design, both of which aren't always apparent to everyone.

As far as the price goes, I can only wish thepope nothing but luck in achieving his 400 dollar goal. That won't be easy in this market, especially considering some of the cheaper quality 4g63 manifolds are 600 bucks (and they have a market size that is mammoth compared to ours). Had I gone up to the 1000-1200 pricepoint, I could have made something like the Hypertune EVO manifold which is a TRUE "work of art".

Steedspeed exhaust manifold though?... to each his own there. Never been a huge fan of that glorified log and it certainly wasn't pretty. Art? Not even close. :)
