GI: Affordable Intake Manifold

Actually... in the case of intake manifolds, "as simple as it gets" is a 4" tube welded onto the lower half of a stocker. Haha.

DONE. lol.

i am deff interested in this as well.
egr or no egr. i dont care.
there are a million ways to cheat the system. :)

In all fairness though it is pretty plain looking on the outside... where it shines is the properly made velocity stacks and a great volume/geometry design, both of which aren't always apparent to everyone.

As far as the price goes, I can only wish thepope nothing but luck in achieving his 400 dollar goal. That won't be easy in this market, especially considering some of the cheaper quality 4g63 manifolds are 600 bucks (and they have a market size that is mammoth compared to ours). Had I gone up to the 1000-1200 pricepoint, I could have made something like the Hypertune EVO manifold which is a TRUE "work of art".

Steedspeed exhaust manifold though?... to each his own there. Never been a huge fan of that glorified log and it certainly wasn't pretty. Art? Not even close. :)

mmm i love le mam. also i agree that tubular manis look way better

Name 3 ways

yeah how are you gonna fool the egr?

Thats a good looking piece!

I think I can hold the costs down because I'm a one-man band and I do all the work myself. If I had to farm anything out the price would go up really quickly. I'll know more about design, flow, and cost after I get all the pieces drawn up and assembled in CAD.

I just hope that the runners are wider to accommodate those running pnp heads. Plus, I really want a larger throttle body option. Truthfully if the 505 would have done something like that I would have considered it more. Depending on how this goes I may just get my old mani pnp'd and honed out.

Glad to hear EGR is back in the picture, do you think you'll be able to accommodate it in the same location as stock so we don't have to switch to the corrugated tubing? Not the biggest deal, but just something to consider when designing the manifold I guess.

And as far as the price goes, $400 is still ok. As someone mentioned $350 would obviously be better but $400 is still a killer price as 505 mentioned himself. Keep it coming Tom, we all got your back :)

no one said i was going to fool it.
option 1. know someone that dose inspections.
option 2. go stand alone
option 3. deal with the CEL, and put in a wavior come inspection time.

option 3 may only be for NC though.

anyhow.
i am very interested in getting one of these. Pope you make some great DP's.
keep up the great work.

maybe for the egr, you could have a thick amount of aluminum that can be drilled and tapped for the egr, or even if you could find a bung that was the same pitch, and have it welded on there. And for those that want egr to stay, just offer a egr pipe kit that includes the flexible Home depot egr pipe. Just an ida to keep the cost low.

And for around 350, I'm in!

im already dealing with a cel for it. lol i will go stand alone at a later date

how could you get a cel with a full standalone if the ecu is only controlling the alternator and the gauge cluster?

bc the ecu is still looking for everything else, and its going to give a light bc none of it is there.

but it can be fixxed with some units.

for those thinking of running stand alone the gauges are independant of the ECU fyi. I have no mazda ECU in my car and all my stock gauges work fine. temp is reading signal from sensor, speed is by abs sensor, fuel level is off sensor, RPM is the only gauge that needs a signal from either an output from the stand alone or a signal wired just like a aftermarket tach. so ya if you rolled your car down a hill with the ecu out of the car but key in ignition you would see that all gauges (speed, temp, fuel) but rpm work fine.

and the check engine light turns off after the initial beeps so dont be worried about CELs either unless you need to do a smog test. in which case just find a shady shop and test a friends stock protege and have em put your VIN in the computer.

(drinks)that i like(breakn)

Subbing.......Interested in one w/o EGR or EGR blocked since I have the MAM manifold w/o an EGR.
