Pros:
1) Its legal, kind of (lol2)
2) Front plate not blocking airflow to my future FMIC location.

Cons:
1) Its not legal, according to VA law you cant modify/cut license plates. IIRC they are "rented" from DMV so you cant technically modify them.

But all my stickers are still showing, the plate is bolted onto the car, and its not in my windshield so I am trying.

Comments?

Yea well I hope not, my friend has the same thing done to his car for over two years now, no tickets so I hope i'm as lucky as he is.

lol at the whited out numbers on the first pic when you see them on the others. Just givin you a hard time.... looks really good though. I'm just glad I'm fortunate enough to live in a state that doesn't require ghey front plates :D

I feel your pain, but damn dude, that is ghetto! When I had the new bumper put on my car I had them not put a plate on at all. It (the plate)will sit up in the front window, or in the back seat. Because some states done require front plates most cops will not notice it if it is not there, but if he sees a VA plate that is improperly mounted, that might just be enough to pull you.

Here is a pic of my plate-less bumper and the happy FMIC.

haha, i just flipped that stupid bracket over and called it a day. still a little blockage, but not as much as when the bracket is on its correct side up.

Well I figure that most license plate border frames cover up the bottom portion of the plate anyways, so I don't think cops will miss it.

Nice (nana) you got more balls than I got, I cant stand cops bothering me for stupid fix it tickets.

Its still properly mounted, the plate in the same holes as it was when I first bought the car, its just that I drilled new holes in the plate to move it up a little, and chopped of an 1''

Mazda had a little plastic plate holder on the front of my MSP when i bought it, I just put the new holes in that and moved the whole thing up. No messing with the plate.

By the dude who did it

Well, almost two years anyway. And thats with being pulled over for speeding and the cop taking a good look to see if he could write me up for something else.
The way I see it, it's such a small infraction that it wouldn't be worth the ink to write it up. And if by chance he does get a ticket, I'm sure we can just JB-Weld it back together. :p

BTW: Here's how I mounted it on my car.... (Eh-heehee-heehee, I said mounted) (evil)

Ehh...I just said screw it all together. No front plate for me. Besides, it's just a fix-it ticket anyways. $10, no big deal. When I had my new bumper put on, I told the body shop to not drill the holes either. Gotta keep it nice and clean:P

Hell, for $10 it would be in my trunk. But in VA it sure as hell isn't $10. Back in 2002 I was pulled by a VA state trooper. Long story short, the ticket for no front plate was about $35 + court costs, making the total hit to my wallet about $65. Since then court costs have gone up about $10.
Not worth it.
The original location of the front plate on the Miata is even fuglyer. And while the L-bracket mounts inside the mouth of the car, it only takes one slight bump from the front and you have two ugly dimples in your front bumper from where the bolts holding the plate onto the bracket get pushed into the bumper.
Whet I got this car the front bumper was virgin, not a single chip on it. No way was I going to risk damaging it. Not to mention a plate looks horrible there.
This was my solution, and I'm pretty happy with it. Yeah, it's a compromise, but that's life for ya.

that's weird...i've never been asked for the front plate in my miata. cops just look at the front and don't say anything

Well, that long story not so short:

He pulled me for doing 75 in a 55. I was honest and nice with him, told him I knew I was speeding and that I was egar to get home after 1 1/2 days on the road. Given that I was going 20+ over he did kinda have to write something up, so instead of giving me a speeding ticket, he only wrote me up for the lack of the front plate.
The officer was even nice enough to let me know that the court costs were about to go up, and if I sent it in soon I could save myself some bucks.
Pretty cool guy if you ask me.

Then there was the time when I had the front plate in the windshield. Cop pulled me over and asked why I had it there. I flat out told him that I though it looked horrid in its stock location. He kinda agreed and let me go with a warning. That's about the time when I came up with this idea.

Since then I haven't had a single problem with it, with the exception that I occasionally scrape it on curbs and such.
