Hi everyone. I was wondering how hard is it to change the spark plugs in the 2002 MP5? What would I need to do? What are the recommended off brand spark plugs for this car, any name brands? Why that name brand?

easy to change, just make sure you have a spark plug socket.

What is the process? When I look under the hood I notice that above 2 spark plugs there are 2 boxes with wires can I remove these to get to the sparkplugs?
How hard is it to remove the plug wires over the sparkplugs cuz thay seem very thin and I didnt want to break them.
What kind of wires and plugs should I get? There so many, any recommended name brands and sizes for the plugs and wires? (ex: iridium, platnium, ect)

yes, those can be removed, those are the individual coil packs. when pulling the wire, pull it from the boot, ALWAYS from the boot, it may be hard to pull out but you shouldn't break the wire if you pull it from the boot. i like ngk platinum plugs, i believe those are even stock on the msp's.

yea really easy just remove the covers and set them aside and make sure u put the right plugs back on!!

What do you mean have a double extension? Are the Irdium pugs from NGK good quality plugs? Should I change the wires as well? If I should change wires which ones should I get?
I guess to get to the other two sparkplugs with the wierd looking box over them, I would have to use a socket wrench to get the screws out. Would this cause any problems or is it safe to do this?
I'm asking cause I want to make sure... :)
Thanks everyone.

while on this subject, does anyone make any aftermarket plug wires

Unless the quality of the Sparkco wires have improved they are crap.

There was a group buy I while back and one out of every two people had issues with them. Either the boots would come apart when trying to remove them or people complained about radio interferrence because of the low restriction of the insulation on the wires.

I've heard the Magnecor are good quality, but pricey.

I used the Bosch Platinum 2 and found they're pretty decent.

After you remove the boots, make sure that you clean out the well really well before you remove the plug. Blow it out with some compressed air and maybe use a Q-tip with some grease on it to get all the dirt and sand. Otherwilse some of that could fall into the engine when you remove the plug and score the cylinder walls.
And I would say unless you have a modded engine, I would just save my money and use regular NGKs.
