I'm going to get a 1991 MR2 to use as my daily driver instead of the msp. I've put 4000 miles on my msp since feb 1. that would be like 2666 miles a month. ******* insane. (scratch) I found this MR2 for 3500 and going to put my msp as my secondary limited mile car for insurance. What do u guys think good or bad idea?

Before i bought the msp i owned a 93 mr2 turbo. As long as you keep it stock, it will run forever. Just be careful in the rain! I know what you mean about mileage. I bought my car two weeks ago and have already put over 1k mi on it. And thats driving sparingly! I have to drive for my job, so im looking for like a 93 4dr civic for a daily driver.

see civics are down low so u don't actaully save gas in the stop and go traffic, civics are good for highway driving when there isn't much acceleration,. where the mr2 has enough low end torque to get u by in stop and go traffic.

Did you not know how much driving you'd be doing beforehand?

I did but i didn't think it would average out to that much in 2 month... i driver 22 miles each way to work...

heh thats kinda funny.. i just bought a MSP yesterday for the opposite reason. I have a 91 turbo.. just hit 50K miles on it and i wanted to get it in the garage. :)
Its a great car.. are you looking at a N/A or Turbo model? if its Turbo be very careful and check the engine out with a fine tooth comb... also drive it and make sure the turbo boosts right above 3,000 RPM... if it doesent dont even think of buying that car.
If your looking at an N/A just do the normal used car look at =)

Its a great car... but since i own a Turbo model, the gas mileage is just terrible.. and with gas prices reaching 2.10 a gallon for premium here.. i need something a bit better since i do alot of driving. just becareful in the rain.... its not that cars best ally.

Its the N/A as for tires i'm getting all season tires and i don't plan on going crazy with that car. N/A so i don't have to do the whole 91/93 gas. I wanna go with 89 gas. its only $1.50 here.

Why isn't the car good in rain... i know it does not have traction control and its rear wheel driver. but still i mean the Mid engine makes it less over steer right?

Used car check?
like tires, belt, hoses, wires, paint, rust.... anything else. I don't care about the interior cuz i'm getting new seats and redoing the interiors too.

yep exactly you got it :)
definately check the coolant hoses.. since the radiator is up front and the engine in back.. you want to make sure those are not leaking, cause it gets hot in the back.

Also if you do get it.. first thing you should do is give it a tune up... the 5SFE responds best to the stock installed parts... so just give it a quick spark plug / wire change, replace the distrubitor cap and pin, and a nice timing check. you will love the car.. very fun to drive around in.

how much is this tune up ususally run.. The car only has 67k its a 1991 N/A

actulaly its more prone to oversteer then a normal front engine rwd layout....just know the car..i recommend takin it to a parking lot when its wet and see the limits...i did this with my 240sx when i got it....plus its fun :)

If you can afford two fun cars, why not?
the reason y my insurence would be cheaper is because i'm goign to switch my msp to a limited mile coverage like 10 miles a day. so that would give me like 70 miles on the weekend. and drive my mr2 around but only have collision insurence.

sweet... i'll see if road and track will let me borrow their "wet" test ground at turner field to test my car. after all it is they already spend the money spraying down the parkign lot.

to add a civic to my insurance would only bee 100 more every 6 months....multi car discount mostly....didnt see anything about limited milage though

not sure really... never owned a N/A but id probably thow a figure like 150$ tops.

on it oversteering.. the 91-92's are more prone to oversteering than the 93+ due to different suspension setups.. but the turbo is ALOT easier to get into a spin.. the N/A really has to be coaxed into it, but once it does start to get slideways.. hehe the heavy rear end makes it difficult to controll.. just be careful.

when its raining or whatever take the car to a empty lot and just take a couple quick turns with it....learn the limit of ur tires and the car itself...plus u can practice how to get out of a slide if u ever get confronted with it...trust me...besides that rwd cars are fun and i know ull like the car

Oh its a NA..., those get very nice gas mileage, and their stlish too :D. I would love to have one for a dd. Good choice!
