Getting a MacBook!

My company just bought me a new MacBook today, should be arriving next week.

Starting next week, I will be working from home 2 days a week. Because I will be moving back & forth between home & office, I asked for a laptop. They agreed it would be worth it to give me one.

They couldn't afford to get me a MacBook Pro, but it doesn't bother me any. In some ways I prefer it, as they are smaller and lighter. I'm going to be carrying this around a lot, so every ounce counts!

They are also paying for me to add on Verizon Wireless cellular broadband internet!

I'm getting the White MacBook -- 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo with 2GB RAM, 80GB hard drive, and SuperDrive (DVD burner).

I'm really excited....ever since Mac switched to Intel I wanted to have a Mac for myself.

Woot! (band2)

i always set one up on the apple site and then stray away from finalizing the order. what are your thoughts on it so far? I think i'm gonna put in an order this weekend

Ah too bad you didn't wait, I'm ordering the same one but waiting for the new OSX, Leopard. It's out in the spring.

good choice. i use a PowerMAC at work. very fast and great for graphics.

My office just bought me a new Macbook Pro, I convinced them to buy it for me after a presentation I had made on my girlfriends Macbook. I was raised on Windows, went to DeVry and was taught Windows, and have absolutly fallen in love with my Mac. Specs on my new Macbook Pro:

2.33 Core 2 Duo
2 GB of Ram
160 GB Hardrive

I love it!

Yup pretty much the same story here. I was raised on PC's (DOS / Windows / Linux), was taught on Linux / Solaris in college, and now have fallen in love with MacOS X.

You'll love the Macbook then... My girlfriend's (technically it's ours, but she uses it more for class) is pretty quick as well. It's got the Core Duo (we missed the Core 2 by about three months), but it's still incredibly fast.

Yup, I've been using an iMac at work for the past 6 months, which is what "converted" me.

The Core Duo is still a great processor...yeah, the Core 2 Duo is faster, but not significantly so.

Macbooks are great, I'm sure you'll like it a lot! When I was looking to buy a laptop and expressed interest in Macs, my friend raved to me about her black Macbook. After getting my MB Pro, I can see why she loves hers so much! :) I'm truly a fan now...

I loved my old iMac so much I got a new one back in Aug... and I have a tower at work..
Apple/Mac ftw :D

man that thing looks delicious. i'm ordering one this weekend. any major difference between pro and non-pro besides power specs and screen size? i'm kind of digging the 13", i don't need anything too big. just gonna be used mainly for internet/coding

The Pro has the option of a glossy or non-glossy display, has firewire ports, illuminated keypad, and is a bit faster. That's pretty much it. The MacBook's are just as good if you don't absolutely need any of those features.

The only reason I went with the Pro is because I got a student discount via my university. $100 off the MB, $250 off the MB Pro, which afterwards put them close enough in price that the Pro seemed reasonable.

Congrats on the MacBook purchase. I'm a PC guy myself and thus have an ingrained hatred for all things apple but I can appreciate a good piece of hardware when I see one. Now if they would just stop running those idiotic & asinine ads......

some of the commercials are clever but it's getting old. they do get the point across however, that you don't need windows (a 'pc')

To me it seemed as though the point was that PC's are boring and you can't do anything creative on them while macs are cool and trendy. I use my PC for graphic design on a daily basis and my wife just edited our edited our wedding DVD on her PC and the world is still turning. But thats not the point. Those MacBooks look very nice. Once again congrats on the purchase.

To me there's no difference. There's a pro and con to everything. And once linux or mac replaces windows as the most used operating system, the viruses and exploits will hit them instead.

I hate to sound like a negative nancy, but I still can't get into Macs, no matter how hard I try. There are just too many little things that annoy me about them.

Don't get me wrong, they've come a long way, and in some ways they're great (the look of the interface, things like expose, etc), but as far as I'm concerned, they're still not "there" yet. Have fun with your single mouse button. :-P

They sure will, but probably not to the same extent, since *nix is more tried and true.

The best thing OSX has going for it is its BSD base. The Mac OS between 1990 and OSX was sheer and utter garbage. OSX was a huge leap in the right direction for Apple.
