Mazda 5 Sport
So after lurking around this forum for a couple weeks I finally decided to take the plunge and become a minivan owner. We ended up with a 2008 Mazda 5 in grey with 41k miles and got it for $12,500. So far lovin the fact that I can plug in my mp3 player without having to pull apart the dash to jury rig something. Anyway, just wanted introduce myself and say thanks for helping me decide that the 5 was the way to go.

Same thing with the wife and I. Just broke 1k miles on our 2010! Also did an Ikea/Costco trip and fit it all nicely.

Welcome, Sumyunggy. Details! sport, touring or GT? Auto or stick? Cloth or leather? Stock or accessories? Beaten or pristine? We need details!

Sorry for the rant.

Welcome and congrats on the new vehicle. The Mazda5 is a genuine minivan in the truest sense of the word!

OK, thats it... Ive come to the conclusion we payed too much for our 5. Oh well.

Welcome. and post pics.

details details....

Our 5 is a grey sport model w/ auto tranny (couldn't sell the wife on a manual). So far the only things that I have noticed is that I missed that there were some clips missing that connects the fender shield to the front bumper. The other bummer in that the place I bought it from only had one key. After doing some research here (thanks again by the way) I found the link to the dealer in Montgomery that can send me out a key for around $150. Just to check, I called my local Mazda dealership (Autowest Mazda) and got a quote for $450 to replace that thing! $450! Really! How does someone even come up with that number!? I was so shocked I didn't even have the presence of mind to tell the guy off! (gtfo)

Anyway, I'll post some pics soon after I do something to make it look different. Probably tint and a hitch.

Consider reading some posts around keys for mazdas. Just because the dealer is sending you a key, does not mean it will work for your 5.

From the factory, the keys were designed to work as a pair. 2 working keys are needed to program another key to start the 5. As you only have one, you need to buy another ($150.00), then have the dealer (no one else likely has the software to program it) program the new key to work with your 5 (at least $150.00 but likely more).

Do not be fooled by the dealer's ability to cut the key to fit the door/ignition. The key has an internal transponder the can only be programmed to work with your 5 if you already have 2 working keys.

Good luck, and then buy at least another transponder key (non-fob for about $20 from the dealer).
Remember that a single lost key will put you right back at the start of this hassle, if you only have two transponder keys.

Sounds like a huge pain, and it is if you buy a 5 with only one key.
