Genesis Coupe - Modded pics

Those 350z's and G35's look sweet!

Lol. =)

We can talk s*** all we want but the fact is people are going to be modding out some fast coupes.

I would considering leasing one.
Tear it up for 3 years and then hand the keys back to the dealership.

How long have the Koreans been in the market? It's been at least 15 years now... They've been making solid cars with great value for a while now, but without much to get excited about. Now the Genesis cars provide a little more of that.

Not arguing that, but KDM have not been on the RWD performance budget cars like this one for long (Tiburon is FWD and came until 96).

If we go to "any" KDM try to find a 15yr old Hyundai X1 Excel on the road on a fair condition and running, good luck. Now try to find a 15yr old JDM Toyota Corolla or Accord on the road on a fair condition and still running, there should be plenty.

Base curb weight: 3549 lbs. (V6); 3439 lbs. (4-cylinder)

Fale.

Fail.

I got my numbers from an article. (dunno) Not my failure. Still heavy, but not nearly as bad.

I would take one in black or blue please!! I wonder if you and price one yet?

You can.

Yes, but how long did it take for people to stop thinking that Japanese cars were big s***-boxes that were going to fall apart?

Oddly, I think of Hyundais as very reliable cars, and Kias as pieces of s***, even though it's the same company. Then again, I don't know anyone who's had a problem with a Hyundai, and everyone I know with a Kia has had it in the shop a LOT, so... (shrug)

I think along the same lines, I don't think Hyundais are completely reliable but for what you pay you get a damn good deal. When I started looking into getting a new car, my grandparents (who know NOTHING about cars other then you put gas in them) were like "why don't you go look at a Kia, they look nice and on TV they say you can get one for around $10,000." I laughed, and laughed some more. I have to say I would take a not so nice Mazda or Honda over a brand new Kia almost any day just because I've never heard anything good about Kia.

As far as the genesis goes, I think it's gorgeous! Looks a lot like a tibby, but a lot better.

MONEY

I work at a hyundai dealership, and we are getting our first coupes in a couple weeks.

let me clarify some things.

This car is meant to be cross-shopped across a wide market.

the spocom crowd, as well as those looking at the 350, and g37.

Its the first rwd coupe that hyundai has made, the tib has always been FWD.

While the car does take some design cues from the G, its not a blatant rip off. I agree about the rear window droop, its a bit odd.

I was bored at work (i work in the parts dept) and looked through our microcat system at the different parts and prices.

On the model with brembos, a single caliper will cost about 1200 bucks. 1 front rotor will cost over 400, and the brake pads will be around 340.

The non brembo parts are significantly cheaper.

This is going to bring an entire new market to hyundai as well... the enthusiast crowd.

Also, hyundais for the most part are reliable. The stuff taht breaks is just trim stuff. My dealership does not do alot of heavyline work (engines and trannies)

Link is blocked by firewalls at work....."adult content" (uhm)

Well, of course. Kids aren't allowed to drive! Duh!

As for this car: I like it. I think the rear window droop is distinctive and kind of cool without being completely goofy. I'm all for the rest of the styling.

More importantly, I love the idea of an affordable RWD coupe, and as much as they've teased us (over and over and ******* over again) with concept pictures, Mazda, Toyota and Nissan just aren't building them, Hyundai is.

I'd seriously consider one. If they come out with a convertible, I'd probably trade my Mustang in!

Everyone else is canceling their affordable RWD coupes due to current economic conditions. Looks like Hyundai was a little ahead of everyone else, and may have the market all to themselves for a little while. Hopefully, Mazda comes out with a Miata coupe (Yes, aMaff, I know you're about to have an aneurysm because I said that.) and proves me wrong.

a more fair comparison is to try to find some of the early hondas and toyotas that were still on the road after 15 years. initially people thought hondas and toyotas were pieces of s*** because, well, they were pieces of s***. it took a while before they got their act straight and even longer for people's perception to change. now hyundai is facing that same battle. their early cars were pieces of s*** but they've learned their lessons and moved on. now it's just a matter of time before perception catches back up to reality.

i don't mind the coupe. and i also liked reading that it shared the basic engine with the new evo. on paper at least it's a great buy. we'll have to see what the fit/finish is like but if it's like what hyundai has produced lately it should be a good buy for a car in the mid-20s.
