I'm new so I don't know if you have done this in the past but....

Whats everyone's gas mileage on their 3rd gen protege?

I just bought mine last week and have yet to finish a tank of gas

Lets have a format

example:

yr, engine, tranny, miles
gas mileage
city/highway mix & how you drive
any mods that may contribute to mileage

2000 1.6L auto 64K miles
XXmpg
mostly highway (65-75mph range) & keep revs under 4k
completely stock

2002 protege5
31 mpg hwy/ 28 city
intake, exhaust
71,000 miles

I got 32 mpg going out to vegas at 75-80mph the whole way

-2002 Protege5, manual - 69,000 miles
-28mpg
-Combo of traffic/city/highway - in traffic I go easy on revs, city I go to at least 3500-4K, highway depends, but at least 75mph
-Intake, ignition wires

2000 1.6L, 5spd, 64500 miles
44 mpg highway (60-65), 33 mpg town. Weekly avg 38-39
60/40 hiway/town; keep revs under 4k
completely stock
rural area; mixed interstate and hilly country roads
mpg drops around 10% in winter due to New England winter gasolline mixture.

wow, didn't think the mazda 1.6 was capable of 44mpg (boom08)

yea, smaller the engine, higher the gas mileage.
Anyhow, Well, Im about at 30% highways and 70% city driving and on full tank of gas Im getting around 420-450 miles. Sometimes when I gun it alot I get around 400. As far as mods, The only things that I have done are
: Injen CAI, J-spec intake camshaft, racing beat axle back (from MP3), underdrive pulley and NKG Irridium spark plugs. Thats all the mods for the engine (peep)

2003, 2.0L, auto, 39134 miles
29.5mpg on a long trip but average is about 28mpg
20% city (posted limit)/ 80% highway (60-80mph depending)
K&N drop-in filter, Mazda sport exhaust, tire pressure 40F/37R

Protege 2000 LX 1.6L Auto 48132 Miles
10% Highway (65-75 MPH) 90% city local (Lotsa Uphills and downhills)
Filled up with 11.5 gallons of 89 Octane Shell gasoline
~32-35MPG 10% Highway 90% City
~40MPG 65-75MPH Traveling to other states...
K&N Air Filter

2000 1.6L auto 65K miles
27mpg
completely (100%) suburban driving
completely stock
driving in phx (110 degrees) with a/c on ALL THE TIME even morning commute

Not sure how you guys get such great gas mileage. Maybe I have a lead foot.. 2001 ES 2.0 13 gallon tank..about 300 miles per tank in city, 350 hwy. = 23 mpg city, 27 hwy. car only has 28k miles too. ?????

2002.5 p5
22k miles
28 city/32 hwy
usually get around 28 with a good mix of hwy, city, and about 80 miles of canyon runs (over 4k rpm the whole time basically)

Yea, I don't know what's up..I run a body shop and am also an ASE certified mechanic. 30k mile service just completed and a new set of tires. mines an auto so that's going to affect it a little bit. I just ordered a short ram intake so hopefully that will help out a bit. I think I just stand on the gas too much. Houston Traffic sucks and I like to be out in front as much as possible.

Sigh

Driving a '00 1.8 LX MTX
45,000 mi
90% hwy

If I convert everything to US spec, I'm getting 25 mpg. WTF?!? And I've been getting that ever I bought the car 4 years ago.
I drive at maybe 70 MPH, and usually shift around 3k. I even take it in for service, every 7-8k miles.
If I get 350 miles out of a tank, it's a good day. I monitor the tire pressure even.

What should I be doing differently? new plugs, wires, shift points?

Sigh

2002 2.0L, Manual, 67k
26-27mpg
20% City (shift around 3000-3500)/ 80% Highway (65-85)
SRI
Thule roof rack(depreciates milage)

2000 1.6L 75000miles 5 speed
mostly country roads 40-55 mph
shift around 3000-3500 rpm
ingen cai
28-29mpg

How do you all get such a high mpg?
mine is 2002 ES2.0 auto 46K miles
18 mpg using #87 gasoline
all city

Why is my mpg so low? is it because I'm in canada and it's winter???

It seems as if the 1.6 gets substantially better mileage than the 2.0 Here is a case where the smaller engine is efficient enough to hall around the same car's weight and get exceptional mileage. Personally, after driving a 99 1.6 and a 02 2.0 I didn't notice a significant difference in pep.

well I have the 00' DX 1.6L. I have installed the OBX headers, High flow Cat, Bosal exhaust, and the K&N drop in filter. I am getting 19 miles to the gallon. I am trying to figure out why I am getting such a low gas mileage. I used to get 26-27 mpg.
