Fuel Pressure Regulator

I had previously posted an thread on a 98 Mazda Protege that has had trouble starting in the cold, especially when it has been sitting out overnight or for long periods of time. This car did the same thing last winter, was fine during the summer, and is now being a problem again. I have taken this car into many places and they all seem to say different things, which makes me think that no one knows what they are talking about. I believe that the best source is a local Tunex location which told me that the fuel pressure regulator needed to be replaced. Has anyone ever changed one of these out before? Is it easy to do and to get to? If anyone could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Don

It very well could be the fuel pressure regulator, and changing it is the easiest thing you could do on a car. It sits right on top of the engine right before the fuel hose goes into the injection system. It usually attaches to the engine with two bolts, or it has a ring on it that holds it in with one bolt.
Check out the following photo. It shows where it is and what it looks like on a 1995 Protege. Your's is 98, but it doesn't matter.

And this is what the whole thing looks like:

I'm just posting because I want the board to notify me when new postings come up. I'm curious to know if the FPR change corrects your problem. I hope it does.
