CX-70 Digital rear view mirror option

Looks like an expensive option that I like ... but at $800..

"Our Digital Rearview Mirror easily changes between Standard or Rear Video Display mode with just a switch. The HD rear video provides a wider view for side blind zones and helps by eliminating objects such as your headrest or luggage."

My wife is a terrible driver anything that can help I might get, lol. Save me on insurance deductibles.

Digital mirrors have their drawbacks too.

- No depth perception.
- You can’t change the angle of view by moving your head.
- poor performance in rain and dust (when the camera gets dirty
- poor performance in the dark (cameras are worst than human eyes in the dark)
- sometimes get dizzying on bumps.

At least you still have the availability to change it from digital to normal mirror based on the situation and you can use the best one of the two.

Before paying for the option, i would try it in a test drive . If the cars at dealers don’t have it, there are a few cars from other manufacturers with digital rearview mirror that you could test it on. You may love it, or you might hate it.

Another interesting take on it :

Altough i expect if you had a bad vision at a distance (myopia) then the digital mirror would actually help.

So maybe the location of the display causes some eyestrain. THey have all kinds of these devices on amanzon and when they are mounted at the dash level they're ok for what they are.
The reviewers on amazon say they work best as a backup camera and dashcam, not so good for using as a rear view mirror.
I have become used to using the side mirrors so much because I can't really see that well out the back of the CX5 that I've thought it might be worth a couple of hundred bucks to have as an option, but they say they can also run down the battery (when used for security).
