I figured I might as well do a final thread here with some pics. of the work I did over the winter. As some/most of you know I fully built a motor this winter. Head porting, exhaust and intake manifolds, pistons, rods, turbo, s-pipe, exhaust, intercooler, have all been changed from last years combination. I have done all modifications with trying to keep it looking stock in mind. This hurts me performance wise when compared to others going for all out performance, but I feel it makes me be more creative than just buying parts.

Last year the cars best with 26/9/15 slicks was 13.15. Shortly after those runs it bent all four rods and blew one out the side of the block. This was with a completely stock motor, head, exhaust manifold, turbo, intercooler, intake system and plastic pipes. These runs were done with around 13-14psi believe it or not. I had very little weight reduction done, and frankly the car had shocked me as well as many others. It just goes to show some freak combinations just work.

This year the first time out yielded some big upsets with the fuel system, mainly the lack of fuel. At only 8psi and stock tires I was only able to muster a 14.5. I now have a MPI extra injector rail attached to the stock plastic pipe. The second night out I was able to achieve a couple of 13.6's @ 103mph @ 12psi. I ran one run with the cut out open and achieved a 106mph pass. This week (weather permitting) I will hopefully be around 16-17psi and be using the intercooler sprayer. I am hoping to beat my 13.15 run but am not holding my breath just yet, there are still many things to play with. I have been playing with the alignment in hopes to get better 60' times.

Argh...I could go on for days... Here's some pics.

Here you can see my poor, poor intercooler pipes when compared to a regular sized one.
Also the extra injector set-up.
The tire combination I will be using this year.

Here's a pic of the car last week at the track.

And a pic. of my launch testing area. Needless to say that alignment set-up didn't work out as well as planned. (Yes I am launching in second gear again.)

What did you put on your exhaust manifold. Looks pretty nice compared to the rusty look. Did you spray some high temp. paint or something? I like it a lot. I like the work you've done too. Keep it a sleeper..hehe. Good luck on your next runs too.

Thats Eastwoods high temp coating (1800*) cast iron gray. It works very well, however the header wrap kinda rubbed it off in a couple of places. The header wrap is going back on, I had to take it off to put the other wastegate on. This time the stock heatshield is going over it for a even more stockish apperance lol.

It will hit 12's, wether it be this week or the next, or the next, etc. If I have to put it on the bottle or put a SRI on or a FMIC..etc. It will get there.

Thats the factory turbo w. MPI's stage 1 done to it and my finishing polishing. The intercooler is a Custommsp's SMIC that I bondo'd and painted to look like the stock SMIC.

I really like the idea of using the stock turbo setup. Such a setup such as yours will go to show how the stock system will actually perform given an engine that can handle the load.

Great job IMO!!! (2thumbs)

nice it looks good and stealthy...what internals did u use? rod and piston combo?

Oliver long rods,8.5:1 Cp pistons. Did some custom work to the piston tops. Everything was balanced to within a 1/4 of a gram.

that is tight to have a car that runs 12's. especially if it's a MSprotege.

sucks to be running high 13's to 14.0 and a stuck open Wastegate preventing me from even racing.

Anyway congrat's on putting the parts the motor needs to safely run 12's all day. (thumb)

great work ... nice idea of keeping it looking stock, makes it harder but that much more unique ... good job

13.52 @ 108.69 @ 15psi. Street Tires!!!! 3/4 tank of gas, 2 DOT slicks in the trunk, 2972 race weight with me in it.

Using the hp calculator thats about 300whp.

I'm assuming that the MPI stage 1 on the turbo allows you to run that high of boost? I just remember looking at the efficency chart for the GT25 and seeing it blow red hot at 15psi. Since you are the guy who knows this s***, do you think 13-14psi is about the max boost for the stock GT25 to run at?

And oh yea. Your car is ******* sick dude, and I want your manifold!!! Nice work, truly original.

The sweet spot for me last year was 13-14psi.

I will let you know where this turbo runs out of steam.

Yeah I got rid of those orange hoses.
