I figured I might as well do a final thread here with some pics. of the work I did over the winter. As some/most of you know I fully built a motor this winter. Head porting, exhaust and intake manifolds, pistons, rods, turbo, s-pipe, exhaust, intercooler, have all been changed from last years combination. I have done all modifications with trying to keep it looking stock in mind. This hurts me performance wise when compared to others going for all out performance, but I feel it makes me be more creative than just buying parts.
Last year the cars best with 26/9/15 slicks was 13.15. Shortly after those runs it bent all four rods and blew one out the side of the block. This was with a completely stock motor, head, exhaust manifold, turbo, intercooler, intake system and plastic pipes. These runs were done with around 13-14psi believe it or not. I had very little weight reduction done, and frankly the car had shocked me as well as many others. It just goes to show some freak combinations just work.
This year the first time out yielded some big upsets with the fuel system, mainly the lack of fuel. At only 8psi and stock tires I was only able to muster a 14.5. I now have a MPI extra injector rail attached to the stock plastic pipe. The second night out I was able to achieve a couple of 13.6's @ 103mph @ 12psi. I ran one run with the cut out open and achieved a 106mph pass. This week (weather permitting) I will hopefully be around 16-17psi and be using the intercooler sprayer. I am hoping to beat my 13.15 run but am not holding my breath just yet, there are still many things to play with. I have been playing with the alignment in hopes to get better 60' times.
Argh...I could go on for days... Here's some pics.
