I don't thing anyone said it was the mazdaspeed p5. (snip)...

Actually, I think the title of the thread did, "Fresh off the press.... MS P5!?"

sf auto show

i went to sf auto show and the rep there also told me a mazdaspeed protege5 will be released, but did not say when.

i will be going to the auto show here in st. louis and I iwll ask my rep as well..the show is jan29-feb2

could the mazdaspeed p5 be released as a non protege? the new mazda 3 is supposed to come out as a 2004 model i believe, so probably a mazda protege 5ish thing will come out then too. I would imagine they would have some mazdaspeed p5s at these auto shows if they were coming out before the 2004 redesign

and i must agree that a ms p5 would have been better for 2003.5. This seems like it would have been a super easy change to make. Are there any parts from the MSP that wouldnt work on the p5? i dont think there are....not only would that have helped maintain the exclusivity of the msp, but also would have helped better establish mazdaspeed as mazdas new high performance line. i cant think of why they would decide NOT to have done this....

another thing I was thinking about and dont really understand is why didnt they just source japan for the FS-ZE (i believe..) engine from the j-spec sport20? 170hp plus a calloway engineered turbo would have made picking the srt-4 as a car of the year etc a bit more difficult. Im gettin an MSP and am content with the 170 hp but it just seems foolish. They snagged a intercooler from mazda europe, why not an engine from mazda japan....

I don't think I want to see an MSP spoiler (2003 or 2003.5 style) on a P5. :D

The Sport 20 with the FS-ZE makes 160 ps, so it works out to be alittle more than 140 hp in the conversion. The high compression would mean even less boost which really defeats the reason of having a turbo. Plus the FS-ZE is OBD I, not smog legal in the US anymore on new cars...
