OK what would everyone recommend for the MazdaSpeed.
There are a few companies that make catbacks. For me I would want to get a turbo back. The only company that I know of that makes a catless downpipe is Apex www.apexr1.com. As far as Exhausts go Greddy makes one the SP2. Apex makes one with the use of a Apexi N1 exhaust, MagnaFlow has one, Thermal R&D has one. And JIC I think has one too which one to go with Help me out All MazdaSpeed owners, what do you all have or recommend? I want to make the Speed louder not to mention faster

1: Apex-with Apexi N1
2: JIC
3: Greddy SP2
4: MagnaFlow
5: Thermal R&D

no way

No way does emission matter to me, I mean twhen it comes time to smog it, I will just bolt on the factory exhaust

Get the catless down pipe, thats where the most gains are to be had. A cat back will offer very little gains. I would go with the Apex, the Apexi N1 with no cats and resinator is loud as all hell.

However, I would check with some Cali peeps, I heard you guys get huge tickets for loud exhausts and having no cats since you guys are a green state.

Oh and on size, if you plan on upgrading the turbo at all in the near future go with a 3in DP, if not the 2.5 DP would be fine.

The 3in is louder though and offers more spool up time, but you run the risk of not having enough back pressure. This has not been proven though.

true

Yes we can get some tickets because Of being loud, But turbos make the exhaust quieter. I like Greddy but I think they are too quiet for my liking. I do know one other speed owner up where I live and he has JIC catless. it sounds nice

I actually prefer quiet to loud, loud gets annoying really quickly and gets old fast. But I drive long distances a lot.

If I were you I would buy a DP(2.5 or 3), catless, with a high flow 3in resinator to quiet things down.

3 inch?

Do we really need a 3 inch piping?? I mean we have a small turbo, maybe if we have a t3/t4 t18 turbos then ya, but not on a t25 2.5 is probably just fine, correct me if I am wrong

Get the JIC, I have it and love it. Sounds almost like a WRX at low RPMs and then the turbo takes over. I'm planning on taking my resonator out in the future cuz I want the exhaust to be louder but its plenty loud as is.

Your correct 2.5 in is fine for our little turbos. Thats why I said if you are planning on upgrading the turbo you should get 3in.

Does anyone have any sound clips from their different applications of exhausts? I was personally going to buy the 2.5 from apex since I already have their cat-less downpipe on my car, but I wanted to hear the noise differences were between the different manufactures. I don't want no pissed off bumble bee!

Whats up Colin...I would stay away from the SP if I were you. My dad has it on his Type S, and it is pretty quiet. On the Speed it would be even quieter...The thermal will more than likely have a nice low tone, but not like a WRX. I've got the Apex catless DP and JIC exhaust...What did you think of mine?
From what I've heard, getting caught with no cats in Cali is a $3,000 fine(per cat). You should check the Federal laws though since Cali law does not apply to you. You might be able to stay catless. Apex and Protosport are the only 2 DPs available that I know of. Talk to SpicyMSP regarding the Protosport one.

the get a downpipe and add a electric cut-out..BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK, NO CONTEST.
my plan, just not getting a downpipe, just stock exhaust w/ cutout :D

there is no need for 3" any time soon for anyone's car, your rods will break before you see any real gains from 3"

if i were you, i'd go custom, then you can get whatever you want to suit your needs
