Exhaust for Hiboost kit?

OK...I posted this on an older thread but no one answered... so here it goes again. I'm planning to order the Hiboost kit in the next cpl of weeks and was looking around the different threads to look for exhaust info and came accross one thread that stated that Juan himself said that the Vibrant exhaust would probably not be good because it is 60mm and he recommended 70mm for his boost kit. Anyone recommend any other exhaust then? I was for sure going with the Vibrant system but now that I've read that I have no clue as to what the best combo is. Any ideas and or comments are welcome to help me make up my mind.
Thanks!
Rick

I would say your best bet would be to go to a local exhaust shop and have them do something custom. I have not seen any exhausts for our car bigger than 2.25 inches and the test car for hiboost has 3 inches.

That's what I've been thinking, but then again...Quality would then be the issue. I'm in Puerto Rico and can't really say I know any very reputable shops here...Scary actually! (boom06)

thats true. Plus, more exhausts made specifically for our cars will be mandrel bent whereas exhaust shops will crush bend the piping

Hey i have the hiboost kit w/ Draxas 2.5" race pipe exhaust. Draxas is one of the leaders in the mazda 3 performance world. They are also coming out with Upgraded Motor mounts for the 3 so check out there web page. I can even help you with the order pm me. The kit is made from top quality materials, sounds and looks great. They also have different choices if you don't want the race pipe you can get a high flow cat, or just cat back. No other company offers this many choices.

p.s that's my car in the link (humpleg)

Alright then... Does anyone know if there are dyno numbers for the Draxas kat-back with the hi-flow kat?

I guess the 2.5 for Draxas is about as big as it's gonna get, ah? (burnout)

if you are going to go with the draxas mine as well go with your original choice of vibrant...?? not sure why you would go with draxas if you wanted vibrant except a bigger diameter....?? both draxas and vibrant have the same measurements i believe...

Well...Vibrant is 60mm which is actually about 2.35 inches. Not quite 2.5, now I'm guessing the Draxas it's an actual 2.5. I don't think the difference would be noticeable, but I'm sure there's got to be a certain advantage to having .15 inches more. Specially if I keep adding mods down the line.

Then again, I am by no means a mechanic or anywhere near an expert in automotive issues but that's just me trying to think with a bit of logic.

I have heard very good reviews for both so right now it comes down to $$$ and potential for a turbo exhaust combo. The numbers for the dyno that are showing in the vibrant website are pretty good, but I have no idea what they r for Draxas so I'm kind of looking for someone to shed a little light on that. I think they run around the same $$$ so that's not much of an issue.

I was originally going with Borla but they want $750 for it here in PR.

damn... borla is right around the same $$ here in the states, like 5bills or so.... and the magnaflow can be had on e-bay for 450 shipped i believe....(thats not to pr though but still...)

I know... It suck down here. I can't wait to get back to the US. But right now I'm in the Navy and stationed down here for another yr and a half. So... Gotta deal with what I have on the budget that uncle sam allows me! (bang) (humpleg)

All of the exhausts tsunami named have smaller dia and sound like fart cans in my opinion. Also that small bit of extra pipe is only going to help with your turbo. With draxas your not getting a mcdonalds brand product where it's mass produced and costs are cut by cheaper materials , and large scale production. You get T-304 Stainless Steel piping , welds etc. You also get a company that doesn't just make exhausts for the money but for the enthusiast. So if you want the best for your 3 go DRAXAS. just my .02

Though i do think the draxas stuff is good, i don't think the McDonald brand companies cut corners making an inferior product. Yes they are smaller, and if Juan put a 3" on his car, then i think larger will be better. I've heard the Draxas exaust and it sounds nice, but heard the Vibrant sounds better by 2 people. Opinions are great, I love my Greddy system, but i don't wanna knock other peoples exhausts either.

When i had the exhaust done on my mustang, there was a local shop that ran a great system had an inhose bender, really clean....so they are out there...just need to look around.

yeah in my opinion the vibrant sounds better then the draxas... but thats just my opinion.... slight thread jack here but you got that kit installed yet king? if so hows she runnin?

I agree Mr Tea. I don't think those larger companies would cut corners, and I am and have been leaning towards the Vibrant exhaust, but again, will it make that much of a difference in the long run with a turbo kit? Or will I only gain an extra 1 maybe 2 hp with the .15 inch difference...? It's a hard decision.

By the way...is that system you have on smog leagal #1 and #2 how loud is it with the race pipe?
1 when ever you need to take a smog test you can swap out the race pipe for the stock cat.
The race pipe isnt much louder than the high flow just a lil bit. The diameter will make a difference even more when you wanna run more boost. I would not go smaller dia. I don't care who makes it.

Good deal! Thanks everyone! Thanks King! If I go with the Draxas I'll let you know to c if you can help the deal go a bit smoother. ;-)

just so you know if you are going to add more boost or fuel or any other major engine mods then that piping won't do on those kits. most cars that run up to 10psi you would stick with a 2.5" the smallest. when boosting a car any higher you need 3" or more to suffice with the amount of back pressure that is being forced through the exhaust. hence this is why you see STI, Supra, and Evo exhausts and downpipes 3"s or bigger to help flow out the 15 or up PSI that they build. I would have recremended marcy motorsport's 3" exhaust but they stopped making parts for the mazda 3 now.

your only true option if you are going to do more boost is to make your own 3" exhaust

Thanks for the info! ;-) I don't think I will go much higher than 260-290 that's just about fine to have some fun with and fool around with "regular" STI's and EVO's. I'm not looking to have a 10 sec mazda 3. (thumb) I just want to have some fun and treat my car nice! (yeah right) In any case, If I could find a 3" exhaust I would go with it but there seems to be none around right at this moment so I'm happy with a 2.5 from Draxas.

P.S. There is a guy down here in PR, Carlos, who has a turbo on his 3 which he's basically put together himself and I have to say he's done a pretty good job. I saw him the other day take on an STI and a SRT and smoked the SRT and went head to head with the STI. I know he has spoken with Juan on several ocasions so I'm sure Juan knows who I'm talking about. Anyways...I can't wait to get my stuff together and running!
