Escort G-timer.. I need some specs real fast..

my buddy got the newest escort G timer, and I have been messing around with it in my msp, but I need to know a few things.. what is the weight of our cars? I saw in SCC that the curb weight is 2843lbs, is that right? I put 3250 b/c there were two of us in there.

we went to a big parking lot and did a few circles, I pulled a .94'ish

the first time it was holding at .96, and the second at .94, so I'll just use the lowest one. I know stock is .88, but I have some eibach springs (pro kit) that really cut back on body roll..

but yeah, what is the average 0-60 times with 10psi? has any one gotten thiers tested or anything? just messing around on an old powerplant road I got a 7.07.. but thats with a terrible launch (dirty road)

its actually a REALLY cool contraption, Im thinking about getting one myself, it measures HP, G's, 0-60, 1/4 mile, 1/8 mile, 60 ft, 0-10, 0-30, 0-70, 0-80 etc...

7 seconds with 10 psi musta been a really poop filled launch. well, there were two of you in the car... but the mags pulled like 7 sec stock so....f me

I have the Beltronics version...same hardware in a different case.

The best 0-60 I've gotten at stock boost with the Injen was 6.62. Actually one time it said 6.00 but it's way off from the other ones (6.62-7.10) so it's a fluke.

I haven't really messed with the cornering g's...I know one time I had some oversteer at 1.04 instantaneous G's on a sharp turn

The launch and 1/4 mile was on a very poop-filled road, we'll probably go out to a nicer road and launch later. Nice to know that its decently accurate.

Yeah, it's accurate. I took it with me to the track and it was within 1/10 of a second from the track results on all 5 runs.

ok, well, after a night of killing my car over and over again (tires are now super bald), here are my best results... mind you, I cant launch for s***, my tires have 0 tread left.

1/4 - 15.05 @ 93 (not a great launch)
0-60 - 6.36 (same run)
"skid pad" = .95 (held .95, then blipped to .96)
60 ft - 2.38 (like I said, not really able to launch)

over all, Im pretty happy. the times seem to be quite accurate to what ppl are running at the track with 9-10psi. add in the fact that I am on a normal road and not sticky track, it seems right.

Those things are accurate??? I know they make some good stuff, but how the heck is it going to be accurate when it is not hooked up to the car at all??? Badass though, if it works good. Acceleration #'s seem pretty close, what kind of hp #'s is it giving you?

The normal Potato isn't here but I can answer that, heheh.

It uses a 2-axis accelerometer along with a processor that computes body-roll, weight, and G-forces to measure horsepower and acceleration. You have to calibrate it once its set up looking straight ahead on your windsheild, and then again if you are going to do a 1/4 mile or acceleration test. It's pretty nifty.

Sorry for usin your name, Spud.

Yeah it's actually pretty cool how they work. By sampling the current foward G-forces being put on the car, the unit knows how fast the car is accelerating. By integrating the acceleration over time, it calculates the current speed of the car. If it always knows the current speed of the car, displaying numbers like 0-30, 0-50, 0-60, etc. is simple. Figuring out distances like 60ft, 330ft, 1/8 mile & speed, 1000ft, 1/4 mile and speed, etc. are a little trickier, but a computer can do it easily.

Check out www.gtech.com for a good explanation of how a competing product works.

I asked for a G-Tech for X-mas.

Don't forget that the acceleration time (0-60, 1/4 mi and so on) don't need a weight value for the car- it doesn't matter. The horsepower figure is what is driven by weight. It works on the same concept as a chassis dyno- you're measuring how fast the car can accelerate a known mass (the weight of the car in this case- on a dyno, its the weight of the rollers).

Also don't forget that the horsepower figure as measured by one of these devices will always be lower than what you'd get on a dyno because of wind resistance.

so far, my best HP (with 3250 as weight) is 166 peak and 155 average. which doesnt seem that far off, if not right on what it would be with 10psi. (has anyone even been dyno'd with just 10psi?)

That sounds about right...a chassis dyno would give you a higher number, but that number takes every factor into account (including wind resistance, the main cause of the difference in #'s),

how much was your escort g-timer? looking to buy one for a friend. but can it hook up to a pc with graghs and compare multiple runs like the g-tech pro?

does the gtec come with all the necessary accessories to hook it up to a computer? the cheapest escort I found was $106 on froogle.com and the cheapest bel I found was $144 to get the revisions of these that hook up to the computer, the prices were $179 and $204

I'm a bit discouraged by the windshield mount for the g-tec since I already have an escort passport 8500

I'm going to have a bunch of crap on my windshield too, as I have a V1.

The feature I like on the Gtech is the tachometer with the shift lights. A shift light is nice to have- don't have to watch the tach as you race to the redline!

I'm going to have to get a splitter to plug both in at once, though, one of those 1 plug into two things.

Damn U have to have something to tell you when to shift ? Just shift with the sound & the feel , I do ;o)

No really if it help , DO IT ! ( If It Smells Good ? EAT IT )

Is this supposed to be more accurate, or the same as a G-Tech Pro?

My cousin has the G-Tech, I really need to try that out sometime.
