When is the best time to switch to Synthetic oil? I have heard members say after the 2nd oil change some say 1st. some go right into the synthetics.

Why wait til 2-3 change??

You can switch at anytime. The thing to know is that you should NEVER go back to regular from synthetic.

I do it gradually. Start with stock reg, then move to synthetic blend, then move to full synthetic. It helps condition your engine better for accepting synthetic. Also, keep with the same oil. If you go mobil1, don't goto jiffy lube on your next change and have them put in valvoline!

proabably nothing directly, but over the years I have found that there can be a huge difference with compounded residue from cheaper oils and cheaper gasolines on your engine. When it comes to oil, what's it really worth to you? Paying a little more for the better stuff? Our cars hardly take that much oil anyway. I guess I'm partial, but I have seen first hand 2 engines from the same car, one with consistant fuel/oil brands, and the other with a hodpodge of differnt makers, and it was nasty.

My 2 cents.... Mobil1 Full Synthetic and Chevron Gasoline

Consistent brands

I also think consistent brands are good, but I never really had any reason to think so. It was just a hunch.

I always use Mobil 1 and Shell gas.

No Chevron where I live. I did put a bottle of techron concentrate into my old crappy corsica and the fuel pump died later... Of course there is a good chance it had nothing to do with the techron because things were breaking on that car all the time. I've been very pleased with only having to deal with routine maintainence on my pro.
