Engine Oil Rise

I took delivery of mine and the level was around 80% between the min and max.

Fitted with latest type "c" dipstick.

Update: 7050 miles done and the oil level was lower than my previous reading. it's nearer the full than the X. I did read somewhere that the oil level will be higher just before a regen is due!???

anyway another check at 8000 to confirm its ok , so far so good..

My theory is that a batch of faulty exhaust pressure sensors along with the cars firmware led to too many regens with too much fuel injected into the engine on the exhaust stroke.

If the following link is factually correct...

http://www.stocksy.co.uk/articles/C...onstrates_the_law_of_unintended_consequences/

then the problem with oil levels rising would typically be worse in winter months. Still, it's looking good so far.

I don't know whether this has been posted before here or not..so here we go...

For those who want to do their own Oil Change in their Skyactiv Diesel Engines?..

THE procedure for 'resetting' your "Oil Data Reset" can be done at home by the owner AFTER an Oil change....

1. Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
2. Depress the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal simultaneously and hold for approx. 20 seconds.
3. Verify that the fuel in oil warning light flashes and then turns off.
4. Release the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal.
Note..The fuel in oil warning light flashes after approx. 15 s and turns off when the procedure is successfully completed

8100 miles, and it's just over halfway between the full and the X mark. Unless the colder weather effects the level it should make it to the annual service (Jan2014)

Nearly 2K miles with no noticeable increase in oil level.

Very little motorway mainly A,B roads, typically 2 to 10 miles in duration.

really pleased for you xtrail, cos I know you were concerned about this issue before you purchased.

I would expect there to be more likelihood of a rise in the winter months due to colder ambient temps.

4mm above full mark on dipstick just over 2000 miles driven motorway 60 mph to 75mph @ 81 miles per day to work 4 days on 4 days off

10100 miles and oil level is halfway between X and the full mark which is where it was 2000 miles ago. Dipstick 'c' is easier to read.
mustn't forget to thank our aussie chums for beta testing the diesel. 'oil' level rise seems fixed for me.

getting 45 mpg+ urban driving. Thank you mazda (cheers2).

My level is a few mm below the X on the old stick. Its been there for a while, ever since I got an "upgrade" at the same time as my lovely local Mazda dealer got forced by me to change the exhaust pressure sensor while everyone else got a letter to inform them it needs done.

So it seems fixed for me too, I guess if Im just below the X on the B version then I am a fair bit off the X on the C version? I drive short trips often mixed with longer weekend trips. Service is due in March so we will see if the garage know anything about the type C dipstick, lets hope so, if they dont then I will use another Mazda dealer, I have a large choice.

My Mazda CX5 has just done 7500 miles of commute mileage 100 round trips and today the Oil Pressure warning light has come on. I have been fitted with the new dipstick but the sensor change is due. The oild level is at the x mark but I now feel reluctant to drive it with the oil pressure light on. I presume this is due to the low viscosity of the fuel and the Oil pump unable to bring thin diluted oil up to pressure. Advice anyone???? Can I drive it still???

No get dealer or AA to pick up and deliver to dealer also ask patrol to fill out advisory note to dealer

Has this issue been fixed by mazda or is there a case for the courts to decide with respect to unusual or excessive fuel dilution?

out of interest level being at the X mark on dipstick C is more serious than being at X on earlier dipsticks. If you don't have dipstick 'C' I would suggest the car is in need of :
dipstick 'c'
EPS replacement
ECU software upgrade.

You can see dipstick 'c' but cant easily tell the other items have been done. As other posters say, don't drive the car get the rac to take it to garage and go with them. They'll have to give you a car for you to get back home. They should be changing the oil (and filter) at the very least.

I believe the problems that the early cars had have been greatly reduced but there could be the odd car that may still have problems. my vin starts with 147xxx is was an october 2012 build. Cars leaving the factory from october 2013 were leaving with the fixes apparently already in place. I reckon mine just left before they were introduced.

I've now had the dipstick c - eps sensors and ECU software upgrade. The regen feels 'rougher' than it did before so I can tell something was done!

HOW CAN YOU TELL IT IS UNDER REGENg I CAN NOT SAY I NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCE WHILST DRIVING EVEN ABOVE THE RECOMMENDED 2000RPM

Hi,

the engine runs rougher on idle and the exhaust note is different when lifting off the throttle completely to slow down rather than using the brakes.

Hi all,

We are seriously contemplating buying a 2nd hand CX5 Sport Nav 175 to replace our current RAV4 T180 but after reading this thread I am not so sure.

Apologies if these questions have already been answered but here goes:
1. Have Mazda now treated this as a recall & the issue been resolved or I am at risk of buying a used vehicle that still has these problems?
2. Is the mpg really 41/42 (is this the 2wd version or 4wd) as my wife commutes around 20k motorway miles each year and I ideally want something that is doing around 50 mpg but with the benefits of 4wd?
3. If this problem has not been a recall or completely fixed are we still likely to encounter these issues given the vehicle will not be used for many short journeys?

Thanks

I do over 1500 miles a month on A38 my return is 49/56 depending on speed the ideal speed is 60 /65 for best return on MPG.I have 2wd 150 diesel
Road tax 30
I have done 5281 miles my oil level has increased 4mm still way off X mark

I find the MPG on the motorway driving at the limit and over is only around 40mpg, I get more locally, in summer it was around 44mpg, it showing today 41.7mpg, which I am happy with.
I have seen 55mpg driving steady on A and B roads.

The CX-5 weak link is the Satnav.

I have covered just over 3K miles since July and can see no oil rise, as far as I'm concerned the oil rise problem for 99% of owners is fixed.
