Engine knock at idle

Ok, I might just be paranoid about all the little problems I've been having after installing my FMIC. Ok, so today I was listening to my engine and I can hear a faint knock, very faint knock coming from the left side of the engine but can't pin point it, It does not knock during acceleration so it isn't detonation, at least it shouldn't be since I've been at stock boost since I put the FMIC in.

SO if anybody could tell me i'm nuts and that engines do this sometimes on really hot days w/hardly any gas left and haven't changed oil in 6000kms
I'd feel alot better(freak)

is it the valve ticking? that got louder when I installed my CAI...

It could be, I can't even hear it when the fan comes on. And I have to put my head really close to the engine to hear where it is coming from.

Yeah I used to feel the same way. I think mine does the same, but i think this might be common. I went to florida this summer and this guy my cousin knew had a msp just like mine and the engine sounded just the same... I don't know for sure I'd have to hear yours, I might be misunderstanding you. (shrug)

i got the hiboost fmic kit and mine does the saem thing...one of my pipes knocks against the master brake cylinder (i think it is) and it only does it at idle. and when i rev it goes away. gotta get some foam in there or something haha

Yea it's not hitting the brake cylinder, it was when I first installed it but fixed it this weekend

rev the engine up a bit at the throttle. if it gets louder like somethings wrong for sure (kinda loud) then it could be a rod bearing that went poo poo.

It revs fine, I've already checked for sure. just when idling

Are you sure your not hearing your injectors firing? Mine ticks as idle too and I have heard several other mazdas doing the same thing. Chances are it's not the valves, it's probably just the injectors. But if it does get louder or get faster with engine speed then it's not just the injectors.

100% agree with bremmer. The fuel injectors tick very loudly at idle.

So your saying, does the knocking get louder when I rev, no it doesn't it goes away when I rev the car up

Isnt that jsut the valves? Every other mazda I have heard sounds exactly the same at idle. I wouldn't worry about it man.

i just noticed the SAME thing today. Sounds like faint ticking from right around the exhaust mani cylinder 4 (furthest on passenger side) this is when i started the car (it was sitting un used for about 16hrs) and i was like WTFWTFOMGBBQ, but after the car warmed up for 10mins while driving, i pulled over and the noise was gone. Ideas ?
