Engine Damper Comments/Qs

I thought it was supposed to have some cushions inside. As a differential damper used in racing applications.

i dont see how it is a damper or how it is adjustable. i tried sticking my finger in the damper and spinning it or trying to loosen it, but nothing happens. there is no play with the piece. its just a solid piece.

if anyone knows how to adjust the damper and make it have some 'play' to it, please tell me

HAHHAHA the big and "uber" weaponr "damper" is not really a damper? WOW!

glad I installed my OEM mazda one (which has a *real* spring inside) :)

I'm not understanding the "not a damper" thing. It is not a solid piece of metal between the mounts. There is flex in it.

But no, it is not a gas filled strut that I think was assumed by everyone.

if there is supposed to be a flex to it, it doesnt allow any play for the motor to move. why not just sell us a solid piece of metal instead? it's the same thing.

sorry, idk if im ranting for nothing, but thank you for your patients. i really appreciate it :)

Your not ranting at all in my opinion. I just requested a refund on my order. Why pay $150 for a piece that goes in the middle that looks like a damper and does nothing of the sort. Hell for about $40 you could make the same thing with a solid piece in the middle instead of some fancy looking, non functioning, damper. This is just my opinion, as I guess I was one of those people who thought it was a real damper, and I swear somewhere someone said you could adjust it as well. I guess I was mistaken.

I hope this works out for you L8R, i really do man, best of luck.

Again, it is not a solid piece. There is flex to it.

How much flex is needed for such a part to work properly? I do not know. I'm not an engineer.

Dampen means it dampens, it does not mean anything beyond that. I would venture to say other kits on the market are of similar design to this one.

I can almost promise it will happen.

My Last post regarding this issue:

I am an Engineer Ben since you didn't know that, and I can tell you when you have to incorporate stress into an object you have to consider some type of movement, and in this case the movement resulted in the original design bracket bending to relieve the stress. The stress should of been relieved inside the damper with a spring or fluid and valving. Once weapon-r designs the new mounting bracket for the engine I'm going to venture to say that the strut tower bracket will soon start to bend as that will be the point that the torque will put most of it's stress on next. But as this is my final post regarding any of this matter I will only read and see what happens.

the Scion tC folks didn't get great results from these Weapon R dampers either.

Issues ranged from Fitment to rattling, to just poor performance.

I don't have one myself, but that's because it's a personal policy to never buy products from manufacturers that use an "R" designation or the word "TYPE" along with whatever letters.

Hope it works out for you guys

2K - im using this for more of an apperance mod, but i heard this is supposed to be just as good as adding motor mounts, i could be wrong. im not expecting any miracle from this either lol

Professor - thanks for your write up!

yes, i didnt jack my car up also.

i was curious to know about the motor mount and the two bolts, but u answered that question.

im glad yours fit! i have to drill bigger holes on the L bracket to fit onto the mount and dremel the welding on the bracket... so gay

i think ill work on this tomorrow and post final pics :)

peace

ya i had to drill bigger holes in the l-bracket. plus i had to buy a new nut for the fwd motor mount bolt because the stock one would not fit.
not to mention cutting off the crise control bracket on the strut bar mount (only one of 3 but still annoying). then mine being bent once it was installed so i straightened it. like i said in the other thread i wish companies would spend more time on fitment before they mass produce s***

well, weapon R was kind enough to email me and ill be calling them tomorrow.

at least they have good customer service and responded to this issue at hand.

peace

just dont forget abt the rest of us..............good deal, holpfully they will work out the issues

i called weapon r today. he told me that today the new bracket (pics) will be sent to them and they'll shoot me an email tomorrow with ETA on the new brackets. he is surprised the L bracket is having issues. as of right now, i will send back my bracket, they are going to send me a new one with the welding on the bottom sanded flat (along with the new mounting bracket).

he also said there are rubber bushings in the cylinder itself and it allows little play. i suggest if u do have a problem to call chris at weapon r. he was pretty straight forward with what was going on and tried his best to help me as a customer. no complaints about customer service.

rubber bushings in the cylinder itself

thats exactly what I said...in the other dampers, you can remove the number of bushings to get a different damping force.

question is, how do u remove them? nothing is said in the instruction manual.... ahh blah, i bought the product and they are trying to help me. oh well, what more can i say :)

thanks vic

thanks L8R for giving us a heads up. (thumb) i know this was going to be my next purchase, but i think i'll wait now.

the end that the shaft comes out, you unscrew the nut. inside will be 2 bushings. you can get diff. color bushes to make it softer or harder. i just bought one from ebay. $70 shipped. and i am going to fab the brackets myself since the weapon r's do not hold up. i took this one apart to see what is what . and this one came with extra bushings.

ohhh please take pics if u can, thanks!

no reply from weapon r yet

peace
