Empty light mileage!?

How many Miles/Kilometers can you pull when your gas gauge's empty light is on?

if you figure that you should have about 2.4 gallons left in tank when light comes on and driving easy getting 27 MPG you should be able to go about 65 miles not counting the gas in the gas line.

we should have someone drive when the light comes on till they run out of gas and have someone follow them with extra gas for when they run out to get the exact milage.....anyone want to be the g-pig?

running out of gas screws with ur injectors and other components.
So go ahead :)

thats why i am looking for the guinea pig.......how bad can it rrally be if it happens once anyway?

Not really on topic at all but I've pumped 14.8gal in to my car once and still have the receipt. Not bad for a "14.5gal" tank.

you must have out of gas there or maybe the pump was not calibrated correctly? i am waiting for the day my g/f runs out of gas.....she loves drving on the low side........

I've driven 75 miles after the fuel light came on. The light does seem to show up after about 12 gallons of fuel have been used.

And by the way, for the sake of your emission control equipment, not to mention the environment, don't keep adding fuel after the fuel pump clicks off.

I have over 86,000 miles on my car, and nearly always fill up with between 12.5 and 13 gallons.

man, i like to get in as much gas as possible.....i round up to nearest dollar and then more sometimes. the Mazda can take a lot once pump shuts off. my g/f's VW Jetta takes nothing once the pump shuts off. i can remember the first time i pumped her car back in oct; i squeezed in an extra $.80 and man, all of it came out running down her car and onto me......that sucked for my sake. i guess you learn......VW's don't take any more gas when the pump shuts off when the Protege will.......!

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. And not to be too blunt about it, but... you shouldn't.

340 max? Wow... I didn't realize the MSP v. P5 difference was so pronounced. On a trip between San Francisco, CA and Seattle, WA last summer I drove 467 miles on a single tank. That was rare, though. I generally fill up between 400 and 425 miles per tank.

400-425 is great.....i wish i got that. i had that once......

i usually get between 25-27 MPG on my mixed driving.

on my p5 (mixed driving) I get like 310-320 miles before the light comes on..then refill normally around 12 gallons. I just found out though that at 3,800 rpms the air/fuel ratio changes so I am going to start driving at 75mph instead of 80mph and see how that works out.

I usually only put 16-20 miles on it once the like comes on. And when it does it takes about 13g to fill it up.

There is a great Seinfeld episode with Kramer and Newman doing exactly that. They eventually decide that fuel is a scam and completely start going nuts about... of course they eventually run out.

Sorry Charlie, Newman was not in the car with Kramer. The salesman was in the car. Oh yeah, It was a Saab.

Sorry, huge Seinfeld fan

I filled up last night with 12.6 gallons. My trip OD was at 429 miles, and the empty light had been on for 63 miles.

my highest in the 5.. about 400 miles to a tank. Seems like the light comes on everytime I fuel up.. after 1/4 tank, light comes on quickly!

dummy light

I've gotten about an average of 50 miles on it from the moment the dummy light went on.

When I take a quick turn the gas sloshes and my car doesn't like that. I can feel it want to die when I get it into 2nd around a turn.

What I don't like about the gauge is that when I fill it completely, I can drive almost 90 miles before it moves at all, then it does it's job.

I'm averaging about 410 miles to the 14.4 gallon tank using Chevron 87, the max I've seen is 445ish. I put 89 and 91 in it, but I get better mileage on 87.

my mazda master tech told me that going below a 1/4 tank routinely will wear out the fuel pump much faster
