Emissions Recall

I opened the mail tonight to have both the "voluntary" recalls, the emissions and replacement of the variable swirl shutter. As I feel my stock '07 is pretty strong, it will be interesting to see how/if it effects the power/performance. I would note it states "voluntary" in the notices, but note the little legalize statement by Mazda under the Emission Law Information: "Failure to do so could be determined as lack of proper maintenance of your vehicle." Basically saying, if you don't do it we have a new loophole to not provide warranty service.

Hmmm......

I got two notices in the mail today as well.

Do I need to do this even if I live in FL where no one gives a crap for emission tests (there is none)?

I had the recalls addressed this afternoon. No problems. It only took them an hour or so. They didn't give me any sort of "certificate" as the recall notice mentions but I'm going to save the repair record in case I have any trouble registering the car in the spring.

you check for recall sticker in the door jamb? like they did for the power recall?

For the folks who have gotten the recall done, have you noticed any difference?

No difference. Car feels fine around town. I did a 4th gear pull merging on the highway this morning and she made me smile.

Stopped by the dealer, guess they already have like 15 cars lined up and can't get me until next week. Thats cool I'll need an oil change buy then and if they do it all at once they already offered to get me a rental car.

I am bringing in my car tomorrow. It sounds like one recall will be flashed and the other will be a actuator valve??? It seems to me that this was due to the problem people were having with their intake valve? I was waiting to do the CAI, until they addressed this problem.

Dropped my car off yesterday for the new FLASH PCM programming and the other recall is with the shutter valve. Iam in San Diego and my car has a little hessitation from 2600 - 3000rpm in third and somtimes in fourth. I have a CAI, TEST PIPE and BYPASS VALVE and my tech buddies said the new programming should take care of that problem. I pick up tomarrow and will let you know if there is any difference.

I got my car back from the dealer. They had to keep it overnight to get a part for the second recall. Can't say I notice any difference, although I haven't had a chance to really open 'er up yet.

As an aside, they said my clutch was fine and the TSB didn't apply. I know my VIN is within the TSB, so maybe they need to wait for someone to complain a couple times before they fix it.

I brought my car in yesterday. The two recalls took about 30-45mins. There is no difference in the new flash. The only thing they do is add a sensor into the OBD-II. The other recall is for a plunger looking thing that actuates the secondary flappers in the intake manifold.

I left my "test-pipe" on, and had no problems with the dealer or the flash.

What is this Sensor supposed to do?

Generate CELs in cold weather! Well that's not what it's supposed to do, but that's what it will probably do if you don't get it fixed. I got my first CEL 400 miles in. Wasn't happy but that turned out to be the cause.

got my reflashes done today. didn't seem to affect anything. we'll see for sure, but so far nothing to report.

Anyone heard anything about the shutter swirl? I called my dealer today and wanted to make sure they had that in stock and they told me I had to bring in the car before Mazda would provide them with the part. Sound like BS to you??

No recall notice mailed/issued to me in Edmonton Alberta Canada so far. My CEL comes and goes daily, and I've pulled the P2006 code every time. Called my dealer service rep this morning and she's researching the applicability of the recall notice(s) to my car - but she couldn't find the 4807H and 4907H references in her database, so I'm thinking it doesn't apply to my car, at least not directly, up here in Canuckland.

However, the CEL *is* coming on so something needs to be done about the problem its alerting me to. The first P2006 came on last March, two months after purchase, at less than 1000km on the clock. I let my salesguy know this when it occurred just so it was on the record. I cleared the first couple to see if they would come back, but the CELs went away over the summer. They just started up again recently as the ambient temps have fallen into single digits on a daily basis.

Service rep just called back to say this recall campaign doesn't apply to my Canuck car. Weird.

Not sure what that means, as the CEL continues to come and go. They still have to address the problem on a warranty basis, on a car with only 6000km on the clock.

Give it a few weeks. If you get a letter from Mazda then take it in again.

...but if you are getting a CEL the dealership should be able to read that and tell you what happened. Even if the CEL isn't on when you show up the last CEL is stored in the ECU.
