i got a check engine light. the code is for the egr valve. i want to try to clean it bc these things are not cheap. the cheapest one i have found for a speed3 is $392. can anyone help me to find this on my motor? give me a location. or maybe point me in the direction to where i can find out how. or maybe any other ideas to how to fix this without getting a new valve. by the way my car isnt under warranty anymore. :(

don't know off the top of my head, but usually there's some sort of diagram underneath the hood. can't remember if theres one for this car but i think it's a standard sticker on all cars showing the various routes of emission control devices

you may want to check on your warranty. I am almost certain that the emissions warranty exceeds the length of powertrain.

Ditto that. Federal emissions requirements stretch out to about 100K, I believe.

o sh*t really?... last time i was at mazda they wanted to charge me $100 just to diagnose the problem though. i dont wanna spend that just for them to tell me something i already know.

AP is Cobb's accessport. You can remove CEL's with it. If you can get your hands on a block off plate, removing the EGR will supposedly help with engine knock, and driveability.

also a $550+ solution to your problem that is porbably covered under warranty.

Here's the location of the EGR valve.

what if the EGR connector is disco'd, will it stay closed? what senses the lack of flow and causes the EGR low flow CEL?

The swap is not hard, just time consuming.
You need to remove the battery and its box, then take out the turbo inlet.
The EGR valve is more or less behind that.
Don't forget to drain your coolant first. There is a coolant jacket in the EGR valve. It'll get messy otherwise.
