EGR question

Well basically when I installed my header I bent the EGR tube too much, now its out of commission, and I wanted to know if I will do harm to my car by driving it w\out it?

Well, it will be loud (from the exhaust leak in the header), and you will be bringing in unfiltered air from the hole in the intake manifold. Plug them both if you can and you will be OK, that is what I had to do when I screwed up the threads on my EGR tube.

You should be cool...

What sucks is when you disconnect the EGR completly.. its not pretty.. The engine wont idle lower than 2k RPM.. and makes a ticking noise like camaros when you gun it... This is only if you dont plug the intake side of the hole left from removing the valve.

Dont ask how I know this...

I am working on modifying the EGR to suck air instead of hot exhaust gazes. I was thinking on disconnecting the EGR tubing from the headers, plug the EGR fitting on the headers and install a filter at the diconnected end so when the valve wants to suck exhaust it will simply suck hot underhood air instead.

Any idea if it would work? I think it will work, since i went about 300 miles before I realise the fitting on the headers craped out on me and the car ran fine with no cell, except for the big exhaust leak.

Yes. I've run mine this way since I put my header on, roughly 2+ years.

with the tube disconnected you are totally bypassing the whole function of the EGR, from what ive read on the subject, it needs the carbon monoxide to mix with the air from the intake to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx)... basically the smog that was super intense in the early 80's or whatever. the carbon in the egr tube amazed me, if you hit it a few times and loosen it up, it comes out like ashes almost, if that crap is going through the valve...damn our cars must have emphasyma by now....

I put 400 or so miles on my car this weekend with the header capped and the egr tube just sort of hanging out in there, no cel or any issues, idles and drives the same.

Cool!!! (first) Thanks for the fast answer :D

No prob. I think if you do a search you'll find the thread where I posted pics of the filter & stuff...

I just bought a msp manifold without the egr threaded fitting and i can't get mine out and i am almost done with my mp3/msp swap. So if i cap the egr of at the manifold and run a filter on the tube to the intake manifold it will be ok??? please let me know, that about all i have left to do.
