dunflops

flatspotting isnt really an issue unless you leave your car out in the cold and dont drive it for several days. that can cause the tire to temporarily be flat on the bottom.

the flatspotting that raider and I are talking about is permanent, due to excessive tread wear on the front (loaded) tires during a panic stop, likely without abs.

Every manufacture has good tires and cheap tires. Most cars come with the cheap tires. If you don't know already, take a look at http://www.tirerack.com/. They have lots of reviews for all categories of tires.
have you seen how much these cost new? 160ish a tire from sears. that isnt cheap, that is reckless. selling a tire that bad for that much

theyre expensive because mazda chose a size that only comes on like on other car (neon acr).

oh these arent factory dunflops...these are aftermarket dunflops...had these put on because i slid and burned part of my old tires flat...then did a big ass burnout and filled my p5 with smoke (the bumping from the tire went away lol)

I'm driving on Falken Ziex 512's 205/50/16

I replaced my OE Dunlops at about 25K miles or so, upsized slightly to 205's (the OE's were 195's). One reason I went to that size is the selection was MUCH larger, and many choices were less expensive. Also, I chose the Falkens because Consumer Reports liked them. The first thing I noticed was that my mileage dropped by about 2.5 MPG. Then I noticed the ride was just as harsh as with the Dunlops, and handling felt the same.

Anyway, I have about 27K miles on the Falkens now, and they'll probably last me another 5K or so. I'm thinking of trying the Kumhos next.

hm my tires/wheels are just reaaaally wierd. i got my wheels balanced and alighned for friggen 120 bux so it can't be the balancing or alignment unless they're just horrible at that sorta job. but at a certain degree of turn of the wheel in either direction at around 45-65 it makes this crucial thumping or vibrating kinda noise.
could it be something like my control arm or sumthing crazy like that? cuz i did hit a curb a few months back at less than 5 mph when it was icy out.

as for the kumho's the asx's are real soft seemingly. if you don't do auto cross they should hold up ok thought

I plan on putting on some 215/45-16's to replace the OEM's. According to the miata.net tire size calculator, it's a perfect match for diameter, rolling rpm etc.
You can get Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's in that size (nana)

i am almost glad i distroyed 2 of my factory dunflops in a pothole mishap... i am so much happier with my kumho tires (& i bought all four of them for less than it would have cost me to order 2 replacements (boom07))

i took a 90 degree turn at around 15 miles an hour, slightly damp roads, and almost understeered into a curb. this is with the 21.5 mm awr bar and full msp suspension. only thing that saved me is that i dont drive like aMaff ;)
dude, that was harsh....

I liked the stock Dunlops. At least the were predictable in their lack of grip. Plus, you could spin them so easily it makes the car seem faster...Come to think of it, that's probably why they came stock in the first place!

i wanna get some nitto neogens...but i cant afford those lol, so ill probably look into the kumho 711s which ive heard are pretty good (i refuse to get kumho ecstas again)

I regret to inform you, the Kumho 711's, which I have, are Ecstas.

i got my stockers to last 38k (dangerous 38k they were slicks by the time i was done with them) i then moved on to 711's on my rotas which were 100x better than the oe tires but still lacked the grip i wanted so i did some standing burnouts to waste them at 20k and put on a set of fuzion zri. i love these tires they grip aewsome wet and dry. but then i swapped out back to the stock wheels and put on some fuzion hri's which are almost as good but just don't have quite the grip that the zri's do (H rated tire) but i got them cause they were super cheap. working at firestone does have some merits

i got the dunlps on my bike to last 5k for the front and rear. i recently just changed them to some pilot powers and those things are like glue on the road but bike tires are a completely diff category when comparing to car stuff

^^ah well that sucks lol...then i wont get those 711s. hmmm idk, ill stick with these tires for now...and when it comes time for new ones ill hit up the forums for some advice

hri's are amazing, not just for the price, but for an hrated tire. these grip better than my zr 712s

what i was saying though is that they don't have the grip that the fuzion ZRi's have i think i only paid like 40 bux more for the set of zri's (employee pricing)

mounting and balancing free since i put them on myself

I was looking at replacing the Dunlops with a set of Yoko AVS ES100s. Droning isn't a problem for me as they have been used on my father's Porsche. Since the only size is a 205/50/16, is it a good idea to go to these or look for something in the original size?

They will fit perfectly. How do I know? I had them in the exact same size! Like Moses parting the seas when driving in Florida rain, and took turns like a slot car. They lasted 20K good miles, were bald at 24K miles. Did not notice the road noise until the Kumhos, but overall, great summer tire.

Thanks RaiderMP5

No problem. I would have gotten them again when I upgraded to aftermaket rims, if they lasted long enough.
