when I 1st read the topic I thought you were talking about BlackBerry mobil devices...
Same as above.
Tires = Rubber part
Rims = Metal part
Wheels = tires mounted on rims
wheels...rims... they've become synonymous these days. it doesn't drive me crazy as much as calling a car a whip does.
It took 14 posts for someone to mention this? Damn, that was the first thing that popped in my dirty mind. I really don't care what they're called, but I actually prefer rims. (shrug)Rim job.
Irregardless, I guess I use rims more often b/c when I first got into cars that's what people were calling them most often. :\it only annoys me because it's inaccurate, like when people say motor when it's really an engine. it's nowhere near as bad as when people say naws. like NCZ13 said the rim is the outer metal ring. a wheel is when it has the center stuff in it also. from wikipedia:
In recent times, the custom aftermarket carwheel has become a status symbol. These wheels are often incorrectly referred to as "rims." The term "rim" is incorrect because the rim is only a portion of a wheel, just as with a coffee cup or meteor crater. These "rims" have a great deal of variation, and are often very shiny. Some custom "rims" include a bearing-mounted, free-spinning disc which continues to rotate by inertia after the automobile is stopped. In slang, these are referred to as "Spinners" [3].
Agreed! I think that annoys me more than the use of slang.I'm surprised that multiple people think that "wheel" includes the tire! Wheel is metal. Tire is rubber. Just like MiaTurbo said. If you're going to use "rim", fine, but that's just slang for "wheel." And no, that does not include the inflated thing stretched around it.
On this forum... I'd give it about another page before the topic COMPLETELY changes b/c there are now TLT posters. And really, it could go on from there. We tend to takeover. But this topic, I'd say about now.so officialy when does the horse actually get killed?
