Hi all,
I've got the Sirius accessory + install kit sitting in my living room waiting to be installed. I am really itching to put it in. I am quite mechanically inclined so I am not worried about that. My issue is time. I just can't carve out lots of free time. Two young kids (4year old and 1 year old girls) plus I am super busy at work lately.
Can someone give me a ball park idea of how long this will take? Also, it looks like I might be able to break it up into multiple parts. (do the antenna 1 day and the unit another day).
I can take it to a local stereo install shop. They quoted me $150 which sounds pretty good. My issue is that I will need to take a day off of work. Also, my wife would need to take a day off. So it is going to be a major pain to get them the car. They are about 30 mins from my home. They might do it quicker since I was talking to the guy and he and I couldn't figure out why the antenna needs to go on the rear. It looks like it might be faster to just run it out the front, around the windshield moulding and have the antenna at the top of the windshield.

Thanks.

Went ahead and tackled this install. I must say that the engineer who came up with this install should be reprimanded.
I did the install in 2 phases. The first phase, I installed the antenna, the DLP unit and ran the cable up to the front passenger area. That took about 2.5 hours.
The next phase included the switch box and that took another 1.5 hours. So 4 hours total.

What I expected to have issues with, turned out to be a non issue. The front decorative panels, (wood trim on mine) were a breeze to remove. I expected them to be tricky.
What was an issue were the 6 - 14mm bolts for the rear seats. They were so tight, that it took a while to get them loose. They were tighter than the torque specs that were listed in the install instructions.

In your install did it have the glued antenna on the roof with the wire running into the rear lift gate? Mine did and I was not real please that it did not install like the one form the factory for 2010 and 2011. Sucks LOL!

Sort of. The antenna attached with double sided tape and it also has a magnet in it. So it looks aftermarket.

Strange question...does the Sirius adapter you installed include any sort of "TiVo" functionality? IE: you can pause/rewind live radio?

Think XM and or Sirius only came out with a couple of items that could do act as a tivo style device.
Had one of these devices myself and the software that I used was third party and not XM or Sirius as they also did not want to get involved with the recording of the music to a portable device. When the third party software came out it was incredible because you could record each song as a mp3, with artist and song title as the file name.
it is just too bad XM and Sirius have other serious problems that they need to fix before they can be a great company.
There is so many things that have come out and are starting to over shadow and can overtake Sat. Radio and are comparable to them.
I have not activated my trial subscription and most likely will not as my smart phone is my Sat radio replacement.

Cobra,
Congrats on your install and enjoy the programing Sirius and XM offer as the programing is very nice and can be addictive.....

No TiVo like functionality. I've only ever seen that on aftermarket add ons, never on an OEM receiver.

My only complaint, and it isn't a complaint on Mazda's behalf, is that Sirius still treats legacy XM and legacy Sirius as different services. My wife really likes to listen to Z100 out of NY in the morning in her car. (Acura RDX with XM tuner) Darn SiriusXM only offers that on legacy XM.
