Dispelling the Myth

Personally, I trust Mazda. If a udp was such a fast easy way to gain 8-10hp car companies would be using them to increase hp on their stock engines. Car companies do pick up technologies from the aftermarket scene, but udps have been around since the 70's and they still aren't very popular...there is a reason.

You can choose to ignore it and have fun with your car while it lasts....just as long as everyone on this board knows there is a risk involved, and the upgrade is not for everyone. People who have high output stereo systems and people who live in hot climates that constantly use a/c and stress their cars cooling system are at the greatest risk of engine failure down the road. Down the road meaning 20-50K+ miles.
 
Pullies are fine except the main crank pulley. I will never use an aftermarket one. Something about an un-balanced harmonic weight going round and round 6.5k RPM's that I don't like.
 
there is a risk with every aftermarket part hate to break it to you, but just ask linux, he himself has just broke a connecting rod and may have to buy another engine. You name it and it can mess up your engine, so for 10 hp from a 200 dollar pulley that won't damage your engine until later on, i think it is a good deal. Especially if you never plan on running more than a stock sound system....just my 2 cents on the matter....oh yea and i will have my udp on when it starts to warm up.
 
Plus to take this risk, you can't be that desperate for HP. Do a hyper ground kit, intake, exhaust, even timming. I don't think that pulley is worth it.
 
I'd do the flywheel instead. I'm hesitant on pulling the pulley off of any stock mazda. I've seen too many messed up cranks in my time to touch the main crank pulley.

The flywheel may be another $200 but it will give you the same kind of gains you are looking for. If you have any problems with idle on clutch in, an UDP or Lightweight flywheel will only worsen them.
 
Ok How bout this, When they Offered the AEM Civic SI's Honda would not honor the Warr. because of the crank pulley on the car.
