Disconnecting Clutch on start up????

Um, why would you want to? It's standard practice on just about all manual transmission equipped vehicles. I am assuming that perhaps you want to get a remote starter or something....?

However, IF you want to start, there appears to be a relay that clicks on. Not sure what would happen if you disable or bypass it somehow.

Good luck.

My boss did it on his jetta, im gonna ask him... So this in the morning when its cold and i want my car to warm up i can just reach in and turn it on.. or if im working on the car i can just reach instead of sitting down...

I agree with Dimitrios. If you are trying to disable it for a remote starter, all you have to do is tap the wire on the clutch switch above the pedal. That way the switch stays functional.

If you absolutely want to disable it, you would have to jump the wires on the clutch switch. I wouldn't recommend this, because the car could take off if you accidently leave it in a gear.

how do you tap the wire? and which wire do you tap? can you show us any way?

When installing a remote starter, there is a black wire with a yellow stripe above the clutch pedal that you tap.

If you just want to bypass it and you aren't installing a remote starter, there should be a second wire that you splice the black/yellow wire with. If you take a meter and test the wires it will be pretty easy to find. Since I don't have my car anymore, I can't look anymore, so maybe someone else might know off the top of their head.

ya im have a remote start i want to work. do its a black wire with a yellow stripe, isnt the wire bigger then the normal 14 or 16 guage thats used. what wire do i tap it with. the ignition wire from the alarm? thanks for the help man.

Yes, the wire is larger than normal. You connect the remote start output wire to this.

Turns out I had an old picture showing the wire. Enjoy!

Yeah, no doubt...you need to remember to always leave her in neutral if you know you're going to use the remote start. Personally, I don't like that option, but to each their own..

My friend got a remote starter installed on his BMW (5 speed), and it has some sort of saftey system that disables the starter if the car is in gear. Is this not a standard feature on remote starters?

Also, i've never tried starting my car in gear with the clutch engaged (obviously), but what exactly would happen? I'm guessing it would lurch a few feet and then stall?

serpentkilla here had a remote starter on his that would put it in neutral when remote starting it :D

well i have the compustar. you have to put it in "reserve" mode to get it to remote start. to put it in reserve mode. you have to lift your foot off the brake, pull the e-brake, leave it in nuetral, pull your keys out (the car will stay running) shut the door and the car turns off and turns on the alarm. now you can remote start. so you CANT accidently start in gear cause you get out of the car with it still running.

a friend of mine disabled his clutch for his remote starter. he was showing it off to is friends in his garage and forgot that it was in gear. in the end, he had to buy his parents a new washer and dryer. i think he removed it after that.

As long as there is nothing in the way. You'd be surprised how far the car will move (even with the e-brake on) with just the starter turning over :)

My VW Cabriolet is old enough to not have the clutch switch on it, and I always park it in gear. On the very odd occasion I forget to put it in neutral. It sure wakes me up when I do that! :D
