Digital camera for $250-300?

:
GLA45
I was just wondering which digital camera is the best for $250-300? I am going to Australia for 7 weeks in february, and my parents told me they would give me $200 for my birthday, so I figured I should get a digital camera to take with me to Australia. Since I know nothing about them, hopefully someone that does can help me out.

Depends what you are looking for. Basic digital photography to just view pics on your pc. The ability to make good quality prints from your digital stills. Zoom or not?? Compact body??

I have a Fujifilm FinePix 3.2 MP...it was like $300. I like it, but theres no sound in the videos.

umm, to take pretty pictures? :) i would like to be able to make decent quality prints, but mostly for viewing on pc/web. zoom would be nice, and i don't want it to be too small cause i'll lose it.

Ok here is a few to check out. All four would do you fine. I am very partial to Olympus digitals myself but you can't go wrong with any of these.

Kodak EasyShare 3.1-Megapixel Zoom Digital Camera
Model: 197-6547

Canon PowerShot 3.2-Megapixel Digital Camera
Model: A70

Olympus Camedia 3.2-Megapixel Digital Camera
Model: 225380

Sony Cyber-shot 3.2-Megapixel Digital Camera
Model: DSC-P52

And here is a site with some great reviews on most digital cameras out there.

Steve's Digicams

i got a cannon powershot a300 3.2 megapixels and takes up to 3 min video with sound. I got it on sale at office max with a free 64 memory card.

sweet deal, takes nice pics. It eats AA batteries

CANON A70

Under $300 at Target with a 128mb card!! My friend just bought one - loves it!!!

Absolutely! Canon is good quality. I don't think you can go wrong! (thumb)

I'd avoid kodak, camera's just feel junky, and haven't been impressed by the overall picture either.

Canon's rock!

Get Pentax Optio S... it's the most compact and lightest 3MP camera with a 3x optical zoom... and it fits inside an Altoids box!

But it's a little more than you want to spend...

i would lose that thing in no time :D

But if you attach it to your belt with thing for the keys you'll be safe.... and you'll be able to take it anywhere... it is smaller than a pack of cigarettes...

I have a Kodak 4330 (I think thats the model) it takes decent pictures, but is a hog on batteries. tried it a day after taking it off the charger (never turned it on between) and the batt was dead. two things to keep in mind: battery and media; find something that takes "regular" batteries aka AA,AAA. In an emergency situation, they are easier to aquire than the special CR type (funky shaped) batteries. you are going to want more memory that the camera has internal. last I checked, CF is still cheapest, fastest, and largest capacity, but other are catching up. If you've already got memory, find something that uses it. and get a seperate reader for the memory, save the camera batteries for taking pictures, not downloading them.

I agree with the canon s230.
It's literally the size of a pack of cigarettes and you can take 640x480 video with it as well.
All in all its a very nice camera and with it being so small, its no problem to carry around. It fits in your pants pocket.

So the Canon S230 is what I would get.

Good luck on your purchase.
