theres a couple guys who have been successful with it
although the work and effort honestly isnt worth it, your better off selling your car, and buying a 5spd protege.
its harder to swap out the trannies on a fwd car because the transmission is in the front and isnt very accessible without the removal of a ton of parts.
on a rwd car all thats in the way is really the exhaust maybe, and driveshaft.
what?!@
mang....talk about a negative dude!!
if what you say is true, then changing the clutch falls under the same category...sell your car and buy one with a new clutch.
your post made nos ense, specially in the protege.
it is the EASIEST swap ever!
just get the right parts and you'll be shifting gears in 4 to 5 hours tops!
you need the following:
transmission
right and left axels from manual tranny
shifter
shifter rods
driver side motor mount, the auto is much smaller.
plastic brake fluid reservoir tank
clutch pedal
clutch master cylinder
clutch line to tranny
manual tranny flywheel
brand new clutch and pressure plate
tranny oil
tranny axel seals
misc bolts and nuts
you will learn how to put it back if you remove it yourself from the vehicle.
these trannies will work
93-97 ford probe 2.0
93-2002 mazda 626 2.0 liter
any 3rd gen protege as long as it has a 2.0 liter engine including the protege 5
axels will only work from same car...so you need protege specific axels
you need to splice some cables from the automatic tranny like neutral position sensors and reverse light to make it work with the tranny sensors. i made my car to only start in neutral, while in gear it wouldn't start because i never wired the clutch sensor.
this is so ******* doable...
go for it...
