ok this really isnt a meet post i mainly had a question for you DFW area guys. How is the living down there. My wife and i are thinking of moving down there in 2-4 years (we need to get out of MO, and what can I say you southern boys showed me some good hospitality and won me over) So i just had a few questions for you guys.

1. How is the cost of living down there compared to other states?
2. How is the house cost? right now we have a 2200 sq foot house. 4 bed 2.5 bath, 2 car garage, full basement and we got it for 151,000
3. IT jobs, in a year I'll have my Network and Telecomunications degree from DeVry. I have a job with the government making 55K a year. Is there some good federal buildings in the area (i can just transfer with the government.
4. Research Hospitals/schools? Right now my wife is in her first year of biology at UMKC, she will be able to get a job at basically ANY research hospital, also how are the the Universities and which ones are in the areas.
5. Public schools? we have a 3 1/2 year old so we have to worry about public school system also.
6. And if I were to move down there right now, what areas should i look in, what cities are direct with DFW (besides plano i know about that one and it seemed pretty F'n nice.
7. And last but not least, would you guys be able to handle another MSP with a little Datsun 510 on the side. this California boy needs to find a more open minded state.
8. Sorry thought of one more. What about the STRIP CLUBS. The wife can just keep stripping down there for cash, what are the clubs like and what are the rules (juice bar/alcohol, full nude, topless, touching)

thanks guys. maybe ill be hanging with you boys in soon. thanks.

Man those are some pretty good questions.

The most important are the STRIP CLUBS, hehehe. There are plenty, from crappy to state of the art. Like the new Baby Dolls. Awesome establishment. Clean, new, and spacie. Fully nude-BYOB, topless-customer cant touch, and this pretty much depends on where you are working.

Houses, great prices. Just depends on the location. The DFW area is huge. There is basically 20 cities in the Metroplex. The nothern Dallas County area is expensive, where the southern area of the mid-cities (Arlington, Irving, Mansfield, Euless) can have upper and lower class neighborhoods. Mansfield seems to be the new choice, and plenty of newer schools. Tarrant Co taxes are cheaper than Dallas Co, something to check for the property taxes.

Plenty of good hospitals, and definetely will take care of that 510 (I do love them).

It all depends on where you are going to work, that I would look into living. The traffic up north is horrible. In Arlignton and the HEB area (Hurst-Euless-Bedford) next to the airport does get congested by the afternoon.

Hopefully this will give you some idea. Someone else can help you with the IT jobs, since I have no idea.

Honestly, I'm only 19 and can't ehlp you with much other than the price of housing out here in Arlington right near the mansfield border. Granted, we got a great deal, but our 4,000 sq ft house only ran us 180k, and we had it built. Housing is pretty affordable out in Mansfield, and you are still only 5-10 mins out from 2 major highways. Mansfield has one of the best public education systems in the state, and it is growing unbelievably fast.(which could be a bad thing i guess, i dont know, im out and glad :) Had something else to say, but I'm playing rainbow six 3 and forgot...sorry.

Antihope is right. My dad has a house on the Arlington/Mansfield border right across from the new high school. Not much more I can add.

thanks for the help buys. all i know is the wife and i REALLY need to get out of Missouri/Kansas area. we hate it up here. And from what i saw of DFW when i was down there it seemed really nice. i guess ill just have to start looking around and see what the job market is like.

Hospitals? You planning on going to the clinic after a few trips to the nudey bar (friday)

I live down South about 42 miles and it will become the SouthWest metroplex after the 121 extenstion (which my company designed ahem) goes in. I built a 1900 sq ft house with a 600' garage conversion on 3 acres in a deed restricted area for 97,600 4 yrs ago and now it is worth 173,300 per the latest appraisal so even though it is a drive you can get a lot for your money just South of DFW.
We are selling it now and I will be building a 3000 sq ft house on a big lot in a gated community a bit further South after this one sells. With hopefully a 3 car garage in the house if not then a detached one car garage for my daughter and when she is gone my projects :)

I work in IT and right now the IT jobs aren't as plentifull as they used to be. Well unless you are a Computer Enigineer and then you can right your own ticket. And as far as schools go one of my daughters goes to private and one goes to public. I prefer private to any public school. My middle daughter won't go to private so she goes to public -ack-.
