2017 CX-5 Squealing Noise - Turning Left Only (Right Side Front Wheel Area)

2017 CX-5 Touring [Past: 1993 Mazda MX-3 GS SE, 2004 Mazda Tribute V6]
Hello. I have a 2017 Mazda CX-5 with 132, 000 miles. I am the only owner. I am trying to figure out the cause of a specific noise that has started to happen. On Thursday, I got 4 new tires. Everything was good. On Saturday I had my brakes replaced (pads and rotors) and an oil change. Everything seemed good. I drove highway miles with little extreme turning.

Today, I was driving and suddenly heard a very high-pitched, almost metallic squeal, coming from the front right wheel area. The sound is most extreme if you turn the wheel hard left (like at an intersection with a stop sign - 90 degrees) or at high velocity/speed lesser angle turning left. The application of a brake does not matter for the sound. The faster you are moving and the greater the angle, the louder the noise.

I have read the forums suggesting belts (doesn't happen all the time), cv issues (no thunking sounds), worn brake pads (brand new). I do not have any metallic thumps, the vehicle seems to be driving well, and when I apply the brakes while going straight there is no noise or issue braking. If I steer back and forth while going straight, the car is responsive and has no noises.

I also assume that a bent dust cover would be constant and not at a specific degree / speed.

Any suggestions for what I should look into? (Thank you in advance!)

Can you get the front of the car on jacks so you can turn the wheel hard left and spin the right front to investigate?

I doubt that changing the tires would have any effect but the brake job probably did. I wouldn't invest a minute of MY time fixing someone else's screw up rather I'd take the car back and have them take ownership for their errors if indeed that's the case. I agree that a distorted backing plate is the most probable cause but there could be an issue with pad installation or the pads themselves. Given the safety aspect of a brake issue I doubt they'll leave you sitting around while they take their merry time - can we say "liability" boys and girls? After all, you paid for a repair and not for them to create a new problem.

Had a squeal about six months ago. A short length of a small tree branch had wedged its way in between the dust guard and the structure. It'd squeal at different times, noticeably more when turning a certain direction. Somethin to check.

Thank you. No, I cannot get this on a jack at the moment. I suppose that is the next piece of equipment I should buy (an axle stand).

This (dust cover) would actually be my immediate thought. The wheel does move about as the car turns.
Thank you. It just did not sound like most of the car noises I could find online (they were more scraping, dragging, and also more frequent for other people).

I did contact the company (NuBrakes, again - they come to your house). And I let them know the brakes were squealing on that side when I turned left. The company sent back a response that it sounds like the brakes are operating normally and it's common to sometimes hear a squeaking as part of the bedding process. They advised that I continue to drive the vehicle 350 miles and see if it persists.

( I have alerted them to a performance issue with the vehicle brakes. That is now documented.)

I will be heading out for a conference tomorrow for the rest of the week through some southern mountains, so we shall see what happens.

Driving into work this morning the vehicle runs fine. It was making a slight squeal and almost rhymic squeal a few times - nothing super acute in angle, more pressure on that side). The road home should have more curves and turns that would affect the squealing side. I am keeping a watch on it.

Much appreciated for the suggestions!

So, I see NuBrakes and thought, wait a minute, there was a guy a few months ago posting of a brake problem and recall the name NuBrakes involved. So I looked that thread up to reference it to you but, no need! It was your thread lol 🤷‍♂️

Possible Damaged Caliper - Brakes/Rotors Change By NuBrakes

So, just a few months later they're replacing the brakes again? Is there a problem that your car is devouring brakes?

Yes! Good memory. My thread! Lots of good advice was given.

No, my SUV is not devouring brakes. My rear brakes were done in May. I did not need front pads or rotors at that time. I got the front brakes and rotors this time. They were shuddering and I also got new tires, so it's smooth like satin (except for extreme left turn noise).

And I know I chose the same company again, but the tech who came out to fix the rear brakes was decent and did a great job. The first dude was like 20 and probably hungover from my interactions and failed to clean the pins / seat it correctly and it froze turning everything into a hot red burning mess. The second one had been in auto body work for way longer and ironically worked on some people in my jurisdiction's custom cars. He was also not 20 (not that there is anything wrong with being 20, just more experience in fixing the situation).

I don't feel comfortable with a jack and the weight of my SUV and wheels to fark around with that myself at the moment. I understand the concepts. I am trying to get academic knowledge of issues so I can 1) understand what a problem is 2) be on a path to diagnose so 3) I do not get taken advantage of by a mechanic shop (I refuse to go back to the dealer) or 4) be able to get the parts myself and have a friend that works on cars help me or 5) understand when its time to get a new ride.

The SUV did well today, and squealed on a few places. I think it's getting slightly less - and occasionally a little rhythmic (that may also be because I'm paying attention and had less hard lefts). I have a trip to Chattanooga tomorrow for work - so we shall see how that does over long highway distances and Monteagle.

I do appreciate the forum and all of the help. (I have sought knowledge and advice on Mazda forums since I had my 1993 MX-3 GS SE V6 Raspberry [my favorite vehicle ever] - everyone has always been super helpful). And thanks for your help in the other thread and this one @HyFlyer !
