demented CD deck [kenwood]

Rather than take it to mazda and have them take that whole shelf thing out and order a new one and wait forever, Im just gonna put a different sub in it. I might get this one replaced though ahhh this is a new car i shouldnt have to be thinking about this!

Just get an SVS while you're waiting for the mazda to get you a new one. Then you can pu it in the house!

Another member mentioned hitting the eject button can make the deck come around in some instances.

update: Well, my ground had a slightly stripped wire, it seemed to help a little...but I can't really test it because the CD is jammed!!! It will not eject :'(

I have had both problems listed previously... The head unit just stopping mid-way & also the sub just stoip working... I have already had the whole back piece(sub, amp, rack, etc.) replaced once by the dealer & just getting the pieces & the dealer to know anything about the set-up was a headache.. my new plans are to take the whole back set-up out, except for the amp... Put some bad-ass 6x9's in the empty spots for them powered by the amp for the sub switched to stereo of course & proceed to get a nice enclosure & another amp for the bass... I think in the long run this is alot easier than the headaches i've been having.. If the redio keeps acting up i will replace that too... But in the long run, when I decide to sell the car, I'll still have all the original parts to put back in.... My dilemna solved...

The only problem I have had with mine, is that I accidently held down the off button. Which powers it off, and flips the face around. Thought I had broken it, but it was just off.

Notorious everyone's hangs when you turn your car on or off. You can go in the menu and change how long you want it to hang there for. This is so you can have time to remove the faceplate if you want to.

I 100% suggest that everyone do what I said I was gonna do about 2 posts ago!! Did it yesterday... Much props to Kenwood for putting what they did in the MSP, but it does not sound too good... The sub just lacks the "oomf"... anyways, I took out the whole back deck thingy(amp, sub, board) but left the amp hooked up... Bought a great 4 way pair of pioneer 6x9's (350w max. 80 w. rms) & put them in the 6x9 slots hooked up to the amp... Total 180 degree difference in sound!! all i need now is a nice sub-enclosure (3 jl audio 10's running in a series) & a 600 w. kicker competition amp runnin in mono will definetly do the trick...No cutting involved, so when & if i sell the car all the original equipment bolts right back in...

Hey I had the same problem that the face stayed in like a half way position, mazda had to order me a new one so I'm stuck with no damn music in my car till hopefully the end of this week!!!

I know that. The thing is whenever you put the car in the on position the headunit will begin to move and flip around. When you crank the engine it'll pause (most of the time before it had a chance to fully come around) and then come back on. This seems to confuse the headunit a lot and puts it under a lot of unneccesary movement. By turning it off when you park your car you can let it flip around and hide or pull it out. And when you turn your car back on and start the engine you can turn it on without it having to pause and sometimes confuse the headunit. If you put the key in the on position you'll see the head unit come alive, start the engine and you'll see it lose power and then come back on when the engine is on.

everyone with an MSP should just buy a different head unit. My 4th kenwood deck decided that it wanted to break on me last week, so now mazda wants to put another on in. **** that, i wonder if they will buy me completely different deck?

never had it happen but i have a 10 second off wait time.. so i dunno maybe if it set on 0 it'll hang i duno.

Try taking a tooth pick or something w/a small head like that & press in the little white button on the bottom left side of the face plate.. That's the reset button & when the radio freezes it usually just reset.. The whole dealership thing isjust wasted time & frustration-believe me i know..

does anyone know if the dealership would just pay for a new deck? i know it all depends on the dealership, but has it happened b4? i know itd be cheaper for them to pay 300 for a new deck and forget about it, than for them to replace the same deck 4-5 times ($$ plus headache)

my HU gave me the same problem. the power shut down and the HU just hung open.
the strange thing is .... the next day, i turned on the car and the unit started working.

go figure

FYI - Reset works

FYI...
Doing the reset of the head unit works. My faceplate got jammed in the middle of the close as well. Reset it , and it now it seems to work.

Sorry, I can't justify spending a few hundred bucks on a new head unit when, while it's got issues, the head unit that comes with the car IS pretty decent otherwise.

Regards,
Bri

ait till you have to reset all your presets and redo your setting for the tenth time. Not to mention when it jams TOTALY.

Mine jammed 2x while driving, just shut off and hung at halfway. Removing the faceplate and resetting did the trick, I can now do this while driving, talking on the cell phone, and eating all at once (jk, I'd probably take a bite of the faceplate if I tried that).

Last reset lasted 2 months. I'll eventually get another deck but for now this one works. Gonna complain to the dealer though, just to have it on my repair record. Already going in for the hesitation, clunk, and alarm/parking lights issue tomorrow...

That is why I didn't get the same setup when my stuff got stolen, I replaced it all and could not be happier it sounds a hell of a lot better and hits so much harder. Read my sig to see what I got

I had to have mine replaced as well -- it took a CD and wouldn't spit it back out or play it... They had to order a new one for me. No other probs, though...
