Guess I've been lucky so far - I haven't had any problems at all, but I usually do the following (time to cool the car too before shutdown):

I use the left corner of the faceplate (closed) to open it after I've started the car and the off button to close it before I've turned off the car. So far, I haven't had any trouble using the more "manual" method, but it did hang a little the first day I had the car until I figured the damned thing out.

I had the same prob b4 it got stolen. I replaced it w/ Kenwood-KDC-MP922.

There's a hint of poetic justice for the theif.
