Dealer oil change uses Phillips 66 Synthetic Blend 0w20

Took my car for the first oil change today and I had inquired about the Mazda Moly oil. The service advisor had no idea what it was and also asked one of the technicians who did not know either. They said they would look into it. When I returned to pick up my car, she told me that they figured out what I was talking about. Apparently they use the Moly additive because they buy it in bulk? It seems fine to me but just wanted to see if anyone had any similar experiences. Also, I think they mentioned that they use Mobil 1 oil.

Not all dealerships carry the Mazda OEM stuff while some do. My go to dealership carries bulk Castrol, Royal Purple, and the Mazda w/moly as the three options.

IMO..Either advisors & technicians are new and inexperienced or playing you (hopefully not though).... this oil has been on the market for a number of years. I haven't found a dealer in my area that doesn't carry it.... I have 5 relatively close too.

This is why I don't go to dealers for any service, or any shop for that matter. I rather do the work myself and know it is done right. I remember going to the dealer with some dents when I first got the car and the service writer told me that the only way to pull the dents out was to drill a hole and pop it out, after arguing with him for 15 minutes, he called his dent guy and the dent guy said no problem, I can do it without drilling. The service wrote up the ticket, gave me loaner keys and said have a good day.

That's usually a parts-guy question. Two dealerships around me, one will sell it to you and the other will tell they can't get it. Go figure.

Yeah the first time when I made an inquiry about Mazda moly oil to a service advisor at our dealer, he had no clue. But when I went to the parts department, they knew what is it and had it in stock. Later when I needed a newer PCM software due to problems on Flexible Maintenance on oil change schedule, a different service advisor was very knowledgeable and gave me the price quote on oil change with Mazda moly oil.

The best bang value for buck imho is the Pennzoil Platinum 0w20 which could be had for half the price of Mazda oil with almost as low viscosity numbers and using titanium as its sacrificial metal.
According to used oil analysis on BITOG, there's no Ti in PP 0w20. Are you sure you didn't mean Castrol Edge with Titanium?
That is the oil I will try next, 0W20 SN, hope to get used oil analysis on it. Prior to that I've been running Mazda Moly oil. It is much heavier/thicker when cold then Mazda oil though. We'll see.

Yes thanks for the correction. Tons of metals to get confused of. Castrol opted for titanium in its Edge synthetics. PP uses its own blend of stuff. Really it seems the best stuff that can be had locally uses some type of "sacrificial" metal" along with its detergents/cleaners blend. Moly is arguably the best in doing that with titanium being another metal. Pennzoil's "Platinum" in its name threw me off a bit there. These aren't new chemical technologies but new to the consumer at the local storefront.

FYI Ferrari recommends Pennzoil Platinum Euro spec although many (like other German car enthusiasts) love them some Liqui-Molly which to brings the oil debate coming back to the Mazda OEM oil as one of the best you can get.
