I always wondered why people made these threads...
I mean, if you shift at 3k, but someone else says they do it at 4k...are you going to change your driving style to match that other person?
Lately it's 3500-4000. And I never touch 6th unless I'm cruising on flat ground at at least 60mph.

3k when caught in aggressive traffic
2.5k when stuck behind slower traffic
3.5k onramp
can never seem to get second to be consistently smooth. There's only a 10kmh difference between 3k in first and 3k in second
You need to change your username1st around 3k 2nd and on about 2k

+1Grandfather here, 2200 - 2500.
2K 1st and 2nd, 2500 3rd and 4th. I usually skip 5th only use when im getting onto the highway, but around town I go right to 6th at about 50-55 mph. I have been known to go as high as 4500 if I think someone needs reeducation, but 4500 in 3rd breaks every speed limit other the interstate around here, so I dont push it that hard. I will go as high as 3K to 3500 IF the car is warmed up, and I need to merge.
OK, so I generally drive the car like there is an eggshell between my right foot and the gas, but Ill also be the first to admit I dont have the worlds smoothest technique and I dont want to cook the clutch. That and Ive been getting 28 to 30 miles to the gallon in mixed highway and local driving 80 miles round trip, with the 15 miles closest to my home being bumper to bumper both ways, takes 45 minutes to cover it usually each way.
All this isnt to say that I wont cream it and drive it like I stole it if some idiot in a WRX, anything honda or toyota, etc pulls up next to me...
whats the point in having a mazdaSPEED 3 if you are going to drive like a granny all the time...Im not saying drive like a maniac all the time...but it gets to the point where it is just a car. I am very anul about my cars...but I have come to realize that there are more important things in life.
