Daily drivers where do you shift at?

Lately it's 3500-4000. And I never touch 6th unless I'm cruising on flat ground at at least 60mph.

I always wondered why people made these threads...

I mean, if you shift at 3k, but someone else says they do it at 4k...are you going to change your driving style to match that other person?

YES! We are all sheep.

I floor it in 6th gear on the freeway to pass slow people. (wink) (naughty)

shift at 2500 - 3500 rpm (from 1st to 2nd mabe 3k-4.5k)
cruise at 2000 - 2500 rpm (unless i'm in 6th and there isn't a next gear)

3k when caught in aggressive traffic
2.5k when stuck behind slower traffic
3.5k onramp

can never seem to get second to be consistently smooth. There's only a 10kmh difference between 3k in first and 3k in second

I have found that the sweet spot for a smooth shift comes at about 2500-2800 for me...

Agreed...but for me its more 2-3 that isnt always smooth im fine from 1-2

2K 1st and 2nd, 2500 3rd and 4th. I usually skip 5th only use when im getting onto the highway, but around town I go right to 6th at about 50-55 mph. I have been known to go as high as 4500 if I think someone needs reeducation, but 4500 in 3rd breaks every speed limit other the interstate around here, so I dont push it that hard. I will go as high as 3K to 3500 IF the car is warmed up, and I need to merge.
OK, so I generally drive the car like there is an eggshell between my right foot and the gas, but Ill also be the first to admit I dont have the worlds smoothest technique and I dont want to cook the clutch. That and Ive been getting 28 to 30 miles to the gallon in mixed highway and local driving 80 miles round trip, with the 15 miles closest to my home being bumper to bumper both ways, takes 45 minutes to cover it usually each way.
All this isnt to say that I wont cream it and drive it like I stole it if some idiot in a WRX, anything honda or toyota, etc pulls up next to me...

whats the point in having a mazdaSPEED 3 if you are going to drive like a granny all the time...Im not saying drive like a maniac all the time...but it gets to the point where it is just a car. I am very anul about my cars...but I have come to realize that there are more important things in life.

We dont granny them all the time you should know that. Most people bought the car cause they like the car over all not just for the speed of it. If it were just for the speed then i would have gone out and bought some v8 like a 6.0 gto or ls1 camaro, But these cars in my opinion a very nice cars. I love my MS3 and i get on it from time to time like just about any other person that has one. The MAZDASPEED 3 is a great handling car and very fun to drive. just cuz we shift at low rpm's under normal driving doesnt mean we baby the car all the time, but we dont abuse it either. there is a diffrence from driving fast and having fun, then abusing the car.

Well... if they bought the car on looks they could buy the non speed version for a whole lot cheaper. I bought it for looks too, but its fun to light it up now and again, and again:)
