Saw CarGuide - Ottleys mc of article - he says the name CX5 is dead in 2026 ---posted here below on u tube 2/22.25 - he " BETS " it will not only look far different but will be called the CX-40 - holy s-it -

Any model has a "4" in its name will not sell in Asia.
You go to Asia, there is no 4th floor.
Especially in hospitals. Good luck finding that floor.
"4 = die, close pronunciation"
BMW 4 series is not selling well either in Asia.
Alfa Romeo had a "164" once. (=die all the way)
Few people wanted it.

40 = die you !!
Good luck selling that in Asia.
I double Mazda (being a Japanese company) is that dumb.
We will see if Mr. Bhindi was right.

I was thinking something like this might happen initially but then I started to lean towards the CX-5 continuing theory…Wow…Quite a shock now to think the CX-5 might be no more…😯

I asked Gemini to generate an image of what a CX-5 successor might look like and after some back and forth it generated this…

Ive been fortunate enough to have visited Japan a few times - and 4 is missing in many normal places - superstition --that said --Car mfgrs often change the names of identical cars to fit the countrys market - just for this very reason - The Mazda three ( 3 ) has been called the Alexa in japan - and Nissans Got a twin Called the " Fair Lady " there ---here - that name would sink like a rock - so lets see what they do-- I just hope they still offer an NA without a hybrid system - will be more $$ --Im guessing the turbo will stand alone and the NA will get the hybrid setup --

I tend to think that Mazda will incorporate the front end of EZ-6 EV into more new models.

2026 CX-5 could be the first.

Good point and it's growing on me already...Very edgy and futuristic! I wouldn't be surprised if it's refined further from what we've seen with the EZ-6 / Mazda6e as that model was co-developed by Mazda.

Well - There appears to be an onslaught of information coming out these last few weeks -- ITs being renamed , Its being minorly changed , Its only going to be a Hybrid ? Confusing and some pics I like -- others look like the Lexus rx or rs ? Oh well -- Mazdas letting out the info to get interest up - but I can imagine a skyactive engine w/ Toyota Hybrid drive -- Great mileage -- big power - so we wait ! But I just pulled the trigger on a new 2025 and frankly Im very happy -- Hybrids often cost more - so thats another questions too !

I actually like the picture from the Australian article posted. I can survive with that look.

I thought Mazda made a CX-4 for China?

That's quite good but it's obviously pulled from Mazda's last-gen design language. I bet if you prompted it to include elements of the EZ-6 and CX-60/70, it might be onto something...

Yeah, I thought it came out really nice for being AI generated...I did try to have it incorporate elements of the EZ-6/Mazda6e but for some reason it couldn't...May try again sometime though...

Okay couldn’t help myself lol…Gave it another try…It still can’t seem to incorporate EZ-6 styling but it did manage this…Slight variation of the previous one now with CX-60/70/80/90 style headlights…

Side note: No confirmation on the CX-40 name being put to use but created a Forum for it any way...First thread!

The comment from Mazda Australia did not confirm a name change, only that they don’t know what the replacement will be called. Mazda has registered in Europe this week new trademarks and it looks like the CX-5 name will continue.

Interesting...Thanks for the heads up! Looks like we might be seeing more of this "e" naming in the future...That said, wouldn't be surprised if Mazda (like any company) is registering trademarks for model names that they may or may not end up actually utilizing...Just to cover their bases.

What I found interesting is that they did not register a trademark for the CX-30e. I wonder if they are considering repositioning the CX-30, enlarging it somewhat to become a variant of the CX-5. Possibly a more sloped CX-5. This is just total speculation on my part.

Nice catch...I'd love to see sportier/higher performance variants.
