CX-5 Doors and Trunk opening by itself

Hi everyone,

I noticed my 2024 Mazda CX-5 GS sometimes has a tendency to unlock doors and open tailgate by itself. I would have keys in my pocket and not press anything. My phone notified me per screenshots attached.

Dealership is willing to diagnose issue but if it's not warranty covered I'll be out of $199 just for diagnostics fees 😕.

Any ideas?

With my 2016.5 CX-5, frequently when I have my key fob in the front pocket it'll act as though I've pressed a button. Particularly likely if there is at least one other item in that pocket. But if in a shirt pocket, there are zero "butt calls" (so to speak).

The owners manual does recommend to not ride around with the fob in the center console. And you're finding flaky behavior if in a pants pocket. I'd try a shirt chest pocket and see if the strangeness ceases.

I might get a Faraday cage with durable cover so it won't press by accident or send signals to thieves trying to steal my car thanks 🙏 🥵

Its a known issue with these large fobs from 2020-. Mazda NA has a service bulletin for the key fob. They got ia fix which increases the time to activate when pressing the button.
Ask your dealer to look into the TSB for the fob. It is covered under the 3/36 warranty.

The other alternative is a key fob cover which goes above the buttons and has a cutout hole for them. Thats what I use and problem solved.

Thx 👍 😊 will look into it 😃

Oh darn it. I might need to get a protective pouch to prevent it from pressing...
I got one like this for my CX-50. Buttons are well protected from accidental pushes. Only issue with mine is that although the button positions are indented in the leather on the side, they are still difficult to see. So, I got a silver Sharpie and outlined the 'open' button - works like a charm.

the mazda key fob on my 2023 cx5 turbo is the worst fob I have ever had...I have popped the trunk and unlocked by accident many times if I am close and bend over to tie my shoe or something...I am not fat and I don't wear tight pants either.....just a poor design..never do it on any of my other vehicles.

I've had the trunk open once or twice and that happened right after I bought the car. It never happened again since and my explanation was that I did not locked the car completely. I came to the conclusion that if I lock it with a double click, to hear the lock beep, then no door will open uncommanded. I don't know if it's true or not but that's what I do.

Yeah, I would steer away from the silicone ones. They get staticky and attract dirt. That's why I suggested the leather ones.
