Cruise control problem

I have a 2003 protege5 and im having a problem with the cruise control not working. I have checked all the fuses, and they are all good. The cruise control flat out doesn't work, no light on the dash, nothing. Any help it much appreciate.

I'm just trying to make sure you got everything covered so don't think im trying to put you down. Did you push and turn on the main power for the cruise. I had the owner of my old p5 call me after a week cuz he didn't hit the main switch.

Check for vacuum leaks to the line going into the cruise control module (on the p/s firewall).

After checking the main button, make sure all your brake lights are working. My old car wouldn't turn on the cruise if one of the brake lights were burned out, as it saw the problem in the brake electrical circuit which it uses to turn itself off when you hit the brakes.

Good catch, forgot about that one......

^ I don't even know if that is the case on these cars. It is just something else to check. Plus, that way you make sure all your brake lights work, which is never a bad thing.

Not betting my life on it but,IIRC, there was a thread about this awhile back and a brake light out was the culprit. I still don't associated seemingly unrelated things by default because I come from yesteryear where if a brake light was out it was simply 1 light lit instead of 2 instead of all this high-tech-clusterfuck-dependency era stuff we live in now, lol.

Like the other members already stated, could be a brake light out or a small vacuum leak.

My room mate and I both have P5's and both of our cruise controls stopped working. His was because of a rear brake light out and might was for a small vacuum leak on the intake manifold after I removed my VTCS. Double check those.

This was super helpful!
My cruise isn't working and I feel naked without it considering all the driving on the highway that I do... Since I am away from my car for 2 weeks I am going to start with the brake light bulbs for sure! :)

Zombie thread!

I just put in LED brake lights, and now my cruise doesn't work. Will putting in resistors (like you would to relieve hyper-flash in LED turn signals) help this? The cruise literally worked the day before I changed to LEDs and that night it wasn't working for me.

yes I had that issue with a ford and load resisters were the cure.

The CC relies on the brake lights as a signal. If it senses no brake lights - the CC will quit working too..
